USC Morning Buzz: Safety Options Thin

With Bubba Bolden departing USC, the Trojans return only three safeties next season: Talanoa Hufanga, C.J. Pollard and Isaiah Pola-Mao.

Cornerback Chase Williams has practiced at safety too so it could be four theoretically.

Worse, USC has no safeties committed in its current recruiting class. USC is recruiting safety Noa Pola-Gates of Gilbert, Ariz., the cousin of Pola-Mao.

But the recruiting services currently have projected Pola-Gates committing to Alabama. USC will probably do a full-court press recruiting Pola-Gates now that it is getting desperate for safeties.

Do you think USC would ever got this short-handed at wide receiver? Never.

But safety is not as glamorous a position.

      1. yep! The crazy part if that I know Scottie has got all this quality analysis in that nut of his – granted, snarky analysis – yet he wastes posts on this nonsense….. Oh well. I keep coming back for a nugget ever now and then…..

  1. The upside? Hufanga is going to be one of the greats. Pressing him into service now will only accelerate his development. His up-side is off the charts.

  2. Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t SUCC flip Bolden from UCLA?

I’m thinking Bolden could just relocate to a better section of LA and start for UCLA’s team. CK definitely needs help on defense.
