If you asked me three players I think USC cannot afford to lose for a game, I might pick defensive end Drake Jackson, safety Talanoa Hufanga and tailback Markese Stepp.
That might spell doom for USC in a normal situation but this is the Pac-12 we are talking about here. And Clay Helton probably gets to wear his slippers for a second straight week as USC plays Colorado, who has been outscored 86-13 the past two games against Oregon and Washington State.
Now here’s the caveat: It will be in the 40’s tonight in Boulder and there were moments in the past two games vs. USC at Folsom Field where Colorado made comebacks.
But even with Graham Harrell calling plays and one healthy scholarship tailback, there’s no excuse for USC to lose this game. Maybe the biggest question is whether any more USC players will get injured tonight.
My pick: USC 38, Colorado 27.
P.S.: Last week I picked USC to beat Arizona, 41-27. I was spot on with USC’s point total but 13 points off with the Wildcats.
Trojans should score 38 or more against this team.
But they should not give up 27 to this team.

It’s hard to care about this game or any USC football game until a competent coach and staff are hired

67 —The only way the number 27 should appear in Colorado’s point total is if USC puts in the 4th string at the end of the game in order to give our front line a breather before we play Oregon…..and all of Colorado’s points come in the late 4th quarter….

I’m looking for a good birthday gift for my four year old niece. Does anybody know where I can find a USC hand puppet?

“I was spot on with USC’s point total but 13 points [off Arizona’s total].” Proof-reading would be good.

As in all the best poetry, the truths contained in Scott’s writing are inferential…..

Michael, is Scott the E. E. Cummings of sports blogs? Or more of a Richard Brautigan with his frankness? Or William Carlos Williams coining new words?

67 —Scott is somewhere between Jorge Luis Borges and J. P. Donleavy —both a little too clever for their own good…..

Flow, last weekend was a complete shutout until sometime in the 4th quarter when the scrubs were in. You’re lucky to be “spot-on.” Try a little proofreading before you pat yourself on the back.

No way the Trojans lose this game, because Colorado is horrible

Colorado should not be part of the Pac-12. But then again, one can say that about many of the teams in the Pac-12.

I’m so old I remember when Larry Scott promised us a Pac 16 and Colorado and Utah were just part of the expansion of the conference.

My issue with this game is altitude. Does anyone recall how GASSED USC was during the BYU game? I know it was early and folks were out of shape, but still worrisome.

If Helton loses, just take him out to the buffaloes and leave him
