USC coaches finally spoke out about the Trojans’ move to the Big Ten.
Lincoln Riley said USC is “always putting our student athletes first.”
I would say putting athletes first is second to the $100 million in Big Ten TV money.
Lindsay Gottlieb said athletes will have “exposure and competition from coast.”
That will be apparent when her basketball team makes that Penn State-Rutgers road trip.

Here’s a Lincoln Riley quote: “ I’m going to try to win the next two PAC 12 championships, and hopefully I’ll be offered a head coaching position in the NFL. I didn’t sign up to be in a physical football conference like the Big Ten, because that’s not my game” 🏃♂️ 🏃♂️ 🏃♂️…. See Ya 👋🏼

I still say a better way to handle this thing would have been to turn the Pac-12 into a great conference by inviting other powers west of the Mississippi to join and give the new commissioner time to undue all of Larry Scotts socialists rules so that the really goods schools could make some money.

Not in this microwave world, Parcel. People want it now!
Your plan would have taken at least 3-5 years to start seeing results. As soon as this goes into effect in 2024, it will change the college football landscape.
I’m trying my hardest to be optimistic. But like you, my initial feelings about this are not good.

Hey you senile turd, the landscape of college football is the SEC. They have been slapping the little 10 around for YEARS. A little more coin per school doesn’t guarantee wins or national relevance. With that said, how is USC or Ucla going to impact the SEC….

It’s cyclical. The SEC wasn’t anything near what they are now prior to Saban. Even now, they are a 2 program conference. Alabama and Georgia have had sustained success, the others have not. Top to bottom the Big10 is every bit as good and will be getting better. Don’t tell me money doesn’t matter, it’s the primary driver in which programs succeed. Head Coaches, support staff, facilities and now NIL are the primary reasons for program success. All of them require big money. Money = success.

I disagree to a point, for example, Clemson. They have been to the playoffs 6 out of the last 8 seasons, 4 title game appearances, and 2 NC, with an average football revenue ranking of #22, in comparison to Texas with the #1 ranking, Texas A&M at #2, and Michigan at #3.
Of the three mentioned teams, only one conference championship between them, (Michigan 2021) over the last eight seasons.
Proof that money doesn’t buy wins.

I hope it works out. I think SC has the ability to become an Alabama or an Ohio State. Lincoln Riley is an offensive genius. All he has to do is crack down on the defensive co-ordinator and make sure he brings in top notch results. If he doesn’t do that, then get rid of him and bring in sombody new who can get the results that we need. We’re going to have a great offense. Bring in somebody who can give us a great defense. When Pete Carroll first started at SC he brought in Norm Chow to rub the offense. Norm Chow was a great play caller and QB coach but he had a history of wanting to throw the ball 60 times a game. The offense was sputtering. Pete Carroll went into Chows offense one day and demanded that he be more balanced between run and pass. Chow got the message and that offense took off. Whenever the reporters would start raving about Chows offense, Chow would say “this is Pete Carrolls offense”. Riley didn’t take the defense seriously at Oklahoma. He can’t do that if he wants to win NC’s.

Happy 4th of July Owns!!! I feel for all the past, present, and future teams of the Pac 12. You are incorrect USC won the National Title in 2004 ……..USC killed Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl, but you are correct on UCLA who has never won a national title in football, and now never will.
UCLA Football, and especially Basketball will be hit the hardest with the move to the Big 10- Michigan, Michigan St, Iowa, Indiana, Purdue, Wisconsin, Illinois, and probably Maryland will give UCLA more competition within conference than UCLA has ever had before where as in the Pac 12 it was basically Arizona, and sometimes Oregon, and rarely SC and Washington that gave UCLA a battle.
It will be even tougher to win a National Title with both teams moving to the Big 10, and without USC the Pac 12 will sink in football. UCLA should have stayed in the Pac 12 like the rest of the low budget athletic programs in that conference.

If you feel good about this move to the Big 10, you should be happy with Carol Folt and Mike Bohn. This would have never happened under Nakias and AD’s Swann and Haden. These guys were not movers and shakers. They were content to not rock the boat. Swann and Haden were “yes men” who just spent their time playing golf and making money. They weren’t going to change anything no matter how much money SC was losing. At least when Bohn came in, he told Ryan Abraham that he was going to do what needed to be done to bring back the glory days…..when Ryan asked him if that meant possibly leaving the Pac-12, his answer was “nothing is off of the table”. None of this stuff would have ever happened under Nakias and AD’s Swann and Haden.

Wolf is so absorbed by the $100million. Where would most if not all the money get spent. On athletics. Which is comprised of students. He cannot understand that the kids will adapt to travel changes, just like the working community that travels a lot. You connect online while enroute. You make the best use of your time. These kids will be flying on charter planes going non-stop, that is shear luxury compared to commercial 2 stop to destination flights. Wolf, open your closed simple mind and try to comprehend what most of us already realize.

Most of the travel time is getting to the airport, waiting for take-off, driving from the airport to the location and getting into your hotel room, etc. It takes most of a day to get the team to Utah, so adding an hour or two of travel time to a B1G game is not really even an issue for the football team. Other sports might be more impacted.
I think that some of the college sports might get dropped, so they can focus on the more successful sports.
This re-alignment was coming at some point and it is ALWAYS better to do this on our own schedule, than to be begging to be let in later.
To NOT maximize the revenues and exposure of the sports programs would have been the real problem. The B1G conference also has overall higher academic standards than some of the Pac 12, like Oregon St, Washington St, etc.

I travel from the west coast to central PA often. It does take a day to get there, but it’s not like it rigorous. I work the whole day, the same as the athletes will do. But they will fly non stop charters and get there in half the time that I do. Travel won’t be as big a problem as made out to be.

Read that Caleb Williams receives 2.4 million per year in NIL money and Malachi Nelson, still a high school student, receives $768,000. Now the USC administration wants to get on the gravy train by blowing off 100 years of Pacific coast athletic tradition and switching to a midwestern conference in exchange for a cool 100 million plus per year. The above bloggers unfortunately are correct. There is no need to concern ourselves with travel time or the affects that will have on things such as academic performance or a college social life. These athletes are no longer students. They are professionals and get paid like professionals. No need to even discuss academics on five star recruiting trips, just NIL money. Get on the plane and shut up.

With both football and basketball, I agree. They are in the middle of that transition trying to figure out how to be professionals. There are no guardrails right now and it’s going to be crazy in the short term. Soon enough those in control, the networks, agents, huge athletic departments at huge schools, will get it figured out. College football is headed toward a group of 40 or so schools who will operate completely different from the rest. The rest of the schools will try and get back to something we were familiar with. The larger schools will be the most competitive and well funded minor league system we know of. I think it will all be sorted out in 2 years.
