Kirk Herbstreit is becoming a college football institution and now does NFL games.
But I have to say I find his performances on USC games wanting.
For one thing, he kept defending Clay Helton and said USC should retain him during a Notre Dame game a few years ago.
Last night, Herbstreit made a big deal about USC being physical at the line of scrimmage because it was against Stanford.
Does he think this is 2016?
Stanford has not beaten an FCS team since Oct. 2 of last year and lost 8 of it past 9 games. David Shaw is running a new offense because his power offense no longer works.
Kudos to USC for taking care of business in Palo Alto. But Herbstreit’s analysis is out of touch.
I wonder if it’s like this on all his games but not as noticeable if you’re not as familiar with those teams.
FBS, not FCS. Agree on Herbstreit and his lack of critical thinking on Helton and probably things.

“probably other things.” Herbstreit is the fair-haired boy of ESPN CFB and now NFL amazon prime. He looks rather bloated.

My husband I thought the same about Herstreit’s “swollen face” look. I know he was ill. Perhaps, he’s on meds that are causing this. Or, all that hot air he’s been spewing: lack of knowledge and data such as his ignorant position about the fraud helton. His incessant glib commentary is tiresome. My husband I wonder if he gets paid by the word!

I think what Scott Wolf is getting at is that Herbstreit has established a “likeability” so viewers blindly accept whatever he says. But KH had a really good line last night which I posted here which I’ll try to find.

Wolfe, it never amazes me for you to see the positive in a situation, that was a production gaffe. Throughout the broadcast he kept saying this is different teojan team. He and Reece Davis seemed in awe of how LR has brought a different feel back the program, even referring back when we a national brand. Wolfe I understand it a slow media day.

Yes, Michael, Scott is a provocateur. I believe it’s his business plan. He’s trying to get people agitated to post. I don’t mind. I am okay with people having different views. In fact, I prefer that to group think.

Although I agree Scott says some things that are clearly stated to agitate. His comments about Herbstreit are on point, however, I think Herbstreit is more knowledgeable that those fools on PAC12 NETWORK. Yogi Roth reminds me of one of Dirty Harry’s best comments: “he’s a legend in his own mind.” His insipid babbling covers everything but the game being played. This past week he was more interested in hawking his newly penned book.

Scottie needs to evolve a bit. He hasn’t developed a new source in the last 10 years as far as anyone here can tell, there is nobody on the coaching staff he knows, probably few if any in Heritage he knows anymore.

Michael, yes, Scottie is still living back in the day when Dave Levy was the assistant AD. Nowadays when Scottie calls Dave, Scottie forgets that Dave is 90, playing with the great grandkids, and he has been away from usc football for decades.

Let’s acknowledge that however much mainstream media tells us the Civil Rights Act never got passed, that the Equal Protection Clause doesn’t exist and that Obama wasn’t elected twice by the vast majority of Americans — nobody with a brain is buying it.
Can we also acknowledge that Kirk gets paid a lot of money to cry whenever ESPN tells him to?

WARNING! FRESNO ST. IS A DANGEROUS OFFENSIVE TEAM COACHED BY FORMER CAL COACH JEFF TEDFORD WHO GAVE USC FITS IN THE PETE CARROLL ERA.. THEIR QB IS SMALL REMINDS OF JOHNNY MANZIEL WITH A CANON FOR A ARM.
OREGON STATE IS ANOTHER TRAP GAME IN CORVALLIS.
DEFENSE BETTER GET THEIR ACT TOGETHER QUICK.. YOU CANNOT DEPEND ON THIS OFFENSE RUNNING ON ALL CYLINDERS THE ENTIRE GAME AS EVIDENCED BY SATURDAY’S GAME IN PALO ALTO.
I HAVE MY DOUBTS THIS DEFENSE CAN KEEP THE OTHER TEAM FROM CONTROLLING THE CLOCK AND MOVING THE BALL DURING KEY PARTS OF THE GAME WHEN OUR OFFENSE HAS SLOWED DOWN.

Fresno should have won yesterday’s game. They rolled up nearly 500 yards of offense and the QB is very good.

They tried to do that worst of all things —nurse less than a touchdown lead in the 4th quarter.
99% of the time you lose —gotta stay on the attack –give the players a reason to be out there.

Fresno is much more conventional than what Stanford showed. I have watch both Fresno games in their entirety and can say Haener is talented but 6′ tall. Gentry could be a problem for him, but Haener is a gamer and will play 4 quarters. Mims at RB is quick and fast. Remigio, Kelly, and Cropper are fast receivers. Their offense is more like what USC runs. The problem with Fresno as I see them is depth quality.

The truth is that all of these national broadcasters probably know less about USC football than I do or many of the people on this forum and or Scott Wolf. We follow one team. They follow about 130 teams. I don’t know how many times I have heard these national pundants say things about SC football and I thought to myself “this guy doesn’t know what he is talking about”.

Parcelman007 yes they know because they listen to talk radio all over hell keyshawn Johnson gives him all the gossip surrounding the program Dan Patrick Cowherd gives them inside stories just review games PAC 12 in 60, they can review film, just like us, don’t agree with you on that

Cowherd probably knows about SC because he is an SC fan and he follows SC closely but the rest of those guys don’t know a lot about USC. Some of the comments that they make convince me of that.

What you get from Game Day shows and national broadcasters is generally headline type stuff. I have to agree, we know more about USC football than any announcer out there, and well we should. Herbi knows what he has time to study on the private jet flight from Texas to CA. I like Herbi, but I don’t always agree with him.

— Right, Herb. And those Indians Stanford used out on the field disguised as Cardinals looked as if they had not been in the

The story we heard was SC let up in the second half and Stanford resurged. Far from the plausible truth. The TV network (ABC?) was losing its watchers after 5 straight scores by SC and likely they were told, or understood, to let up in the second half to create another narrative that Stanford could get back into the game. So TV ratings often influence the so-called analysis.

Pray-Tell something like that would never happen, fixing college football games.
My mother was in a bad mood one rainy year right before Christmas Day,
and I asked her, “How could Santa get through the rain to us?”
And she uncustomarily barked-out, “There is no Santa!”
I was heart-broken, but those sad feelings could never match how I would feel if SC had been cheating all these years!

When I was 5 my 14 year old cousin told me she had deduced that the original Santa must be dead…but new ones were constantly being elected to replace the dead ones..& that this process of renewal had been going on for thousands of years…

I found Reece Davis annoying. Constantly talking about “if this if that” the game would be close. All of USC’s interceptions were tipped and therefore fortuitous. Or that pass was a TD for Stanford except that is wasn’t… I could go on and on.

I still recoil when I think of his comments at the Darnold Penn St Rose Bowl win. Rece clearly wanted to be somewhere else.
