USC Notes: A Massive Task For Basketball

Now that Eric Musselman has completed his roster, you can see why Andy Enfield went to SMU.

Enfield knew he was coming off a poor season and was going to have to completely rebuild the roster for a make-or-break year . . . in the Big Ten! No thanks. He’d rather go to SMU for $5 million.

The challenge is illustrated in this chart from data analyst Evan Miyakawa. He rates USC’s transfer class in the Top 16 but when he factors in the eight departures, USC doesn’t crack this list.

  • Enfield finally hired away USC’s basketball operations Michael Swets (the pony-tail guy) and strength coach Kurtis Shultz, who had been the basketball strength coach for the past 11 years.
  • USC is still requiring anyone who comes on campus to register in advance. It wouldn’t surprise me if the goal of Carol Folt and Co. is to keep the public from visiting campus anymore without advance registration.
  • The USC women’s golf team has advanced to the NCAA Final Four and will face Stanford this afternoon in the semifinals.

  1. Oh well, SC fans are used to having mediocre basketball teams, and how about ‘Dandy Andy luring a couple of coaches to SMU, but how can you uproot Los Angeles and go to a far away place like Texas, the life of a coach

  2. So Scott and others bitched that Enfield could recruit but not coach. His teams underachieved. Now Jen has brought in Musselman, a guy who can coach, who has teams that have overachieved but he may be a pain in the ass. Give me the guy that overachieves. I want Patton to command the third army even if he slaps a soldier or speaks out of turn.
