I’m sure social media is not a great way to gauge how fans feel on an issue but so far USC fans seem desperate to approve of what’s happened with the coaching staff since the season ended.
Three facts:
- Clancy Pendergast is an average-to-below average defensive coordinator.
- John Baxter has been a below-average special teams coach the past three seasons.
- The strength and conditioning program is currently unchanged.
So how much will things really change next season if the main coaching changes already occurred?

The year that Notre Dame cleaned house, when did they fire their Strength and Conditioning coach? December 17. Did you attack Kelly for that? No. Because you’re ig-nant. Give Clay a chance to make his coaching changes, keep your powder dry, Scottie, and then get angry next fall if and when they start losing games. It’ll be a BRUTAL schedule, so I’m sure you’ll be happy in a self-loathing sort of way.

It didn’t appear to me that USC needed to change their strength and conditioning coach, they desperately needed direction, and discipline with their offense . And the key coaches have been replaced, because Tee Martin, and Neil Calloway were literally killing the program, along with Helton’s lack of leadership. So with the presence of Kliff Kingsbury, I’m sure Helton will go back to being an irrelevant figurehead.

But if you go back to Alabama and Ohio State we are in a lower level in the way we matchup to their players because the S&C program.

the Head coach calls the practices and were the real problem…no bowl helton decides the type of practices…as in ‘no pads’ November…was really no pads at all, just shorts… period…for 3 years , and he used many practices for other activities.

I have to agree.
These are all serious parts to why USC is not tough physically and efective with the people in these areas still around in charge.
1. Clancy Pendergast is the most overrated DC in College Football who will ultimately be the piece of the puzzle that Clay tried to fit but instead got the Helton fired.
2. The S&C is a joke. I hear our players are getting too many injuries that are reflecting the S&C has been a weakness and our players have had to pay for it with injuries. But we dont look like a program that is championship driven in the weight room and in training because we look like pretenders next to Ohio State and Wisconsin and Alabama.
They need to steal the Bama guy or his top assistants NOW!
3. John Baxter has flew under the radar but he needs to step it up.

Yes because the fans of today are either too young or stupid to know what a real staff looks like. Go back and look at the staff’s of McKay, Robo1, hell even Hackett had some decent assts, this complete loser has no idea who to call because he doesn’t know anyone aside from his daddy’s useless buddies

If the USC team starts 2-4 or 1-5 with the schedule next year . I dont see Helton surviving. fresno st, stanford, byu, utah , notre dame and washington a tough start
