USC Morning Buzz: Here’s An Inquest On A Wild Weekend In North Carolina

The USC baseball team really captured the hearts of a lot of Trojan fans the past two weekends, which made Sunday’s loss even more heartbreaking, so close to a berth in the College World Series for the first time since 2001. I actually went to Omaha in 2001 and it was a fantastic experience with Coach Mike Gillespie and pitching coach John Savage, and players … Continue reading USC Morning Buzz: Here’s An Inquest On A Wild Weekend In North Carolina

Where Was Mason Edwards Today?

Let’s be clear: Mason Edwards was USC’s best baseball player and this season and was excellent all season. So that makes me wonder why he wasn’t used with the Trojans’ season on the line in the eighth and ninth innings today? USC practically wore out Andrew Johnson and Grant Govel in the playoffs and they responded whenever asked. Why was it OK to work them … Continue reading Where Was Mason Edwards Today?

USC Loses 4-3 To North Carolina As Bullpen Falters

USC blows a 3-1 lead in the ninth and loses 4-3 to North Carolina. The bullpen faltered as closer Adam Troy struggled in the final inning. The USC bullpen is faltering in the … Continue reading USC Loses 4-3 To North Carolina As Bullpen Falters

It looks like it will be all-hands-on-deck. Diego Velasquez (5-1) and Chase Herrell (6-4) are certainly candidates. Is Mason Edwards available for spot duty? USC just can not handle North Carolina pitcher Jason Decaro. … Continue reading North Carolina Beats USC, 4-0, To Set Up Huge Sunday Game

If It’s Friday, It’s Time For A USC Notes Column

There was a report this week that Arizona State had 34 scholarship baseball players. That’s an extraordinary number. The NCAA allowed only 11.7 scholarships for years in baseball but once the House settlement took effect, schools now have fixed roster limits and are allowed to offer a scholarship to every single athlete on their roster (if they can afford it). This raises a question: How … Continue reading If It’s Friday, It’s Time For A USC Notes Column

USC Morning Buzz: Who Remembers This Jersey Switch?

Did you see when Jared Verse showed up at Cleveland Browns practice this week, he was wearing No. 8. That number belongs to Browns QB Dillon Gabriel. Or belonged to Gabriel, anyway. This reminded me of 2003, when USC coach Pete Carroll made quarterback Brandon Hance give up No. 4 and awarded it to wide receiver Whitney Lewis. Lewis had originally worn No. 26 before … Continue reading USC Morning Buzz: Who Remembers This Jersey Switch?
