Talanoa Hufanga And Kedon Slovis Ruled Out

Safety Talanoa Hufanga and quarterback Kedon Slovis will not play against Washington after suffering concussions last week. Cornerback Olaijah Griffin (back) will also miss the game.

Matt Fink starts at QB, Chase Williams starts at safety and Isaac Taylor-Stuart is back and can start for Griffin.

  1. As of Thursday 26th September, WA is an 11 point favorite…..they NEED to win this game or be down 2 losses in the Pac-12 north. Should Cal defeat AZ St. tomorrow night the pressure will increase. I don’t see USC defeating WA – if that were to happen than Petersen is not what so many allege he is….the USC offense is pass and deep passes at that. Fink is a natural runner but he’s under strong orders to not scramble lest another qb is knocked out.

    1. If the defensive line gets Eason to move off his spot, and I’m thinking they can, we have a punchers chance to say the least…wish Hufanga and griffin were available at least our db depth is almost as bad as qb.

      1. Well Mike if he can’t find open receivers he’s going to have to do just that. I normally don’t go too much on point spreads but man USC an ’11’ points underdog and, even allowing for a hostile road game, this isn’t AL or Clemson. I believe smart money ‘knows’ something and I also believe it’s the two head coaches.

      3. Alv –Vegas has been off by 7 points (or more) in every game we’ve played this season. But that doesn’t help us win when we’re 10 or 11 point underdogs. This time we need to a fumble recovery or an interception for a TD to overcome the spread. ….

    4. Okay, but what about the other side of that coin? If THAT were to happen, is Helton no longer what so many allege?? On the road…11 point dog…3rd string QB…top tackler out… I mean, forget Petersen, that’s them… What does it say about Helton if/when this team pulls that off?

        If Helton pulls this off….with his key offensive player out….and the star defensive player out….in Seattle….as an 11 point underdog…..NO ONE will be allowed to write a negative word about him for the rest of the season no matters what happens after Saturday……

  3. I’m guessing the game plan for Fink is quick three step drop passes so as to reduce likelihood of QB hurries and knockdowns.

    USC’s O is better suited for the deep pass but that might not be the best call for a team down 2 QB’s already. The question is if they can use the 3 step drop to hold on to the ball significantly and get down the length of the field for TD’s.

    1. Look for passes up the middle to the tight end, jump balls for wide receivers, (wasted) passes to Carr, runs by Stepp and Fink….
