The Mike Bohn Show Goes To Galen Center

I decided to sit right next to the bench at the USC basketball game Tuesday night, hoping to see Andy Enfield coach close up. He did so little, however, I became more interested in athletic director Mike Bohn.

Bohn spoke to the donors before the game in the Founders Room at the Galen Center. He did a TV interview. He then watched most of the game wth a donor/fan opposite where the athletic director seats are behind the basket.

I can’t imagine Lynn Swann ever leaving his seats to go sit on the other side of the arena just to speak to another human being. If nothing else, Bohn is definitely a people person.

Mike McGee was not a people person.

Mike Garrett was not a people person.

Pat Haden thought he was a people person but became completely withdrawn as athletic director.

Lynn Swann was the anti-people person.

      1. They spent all that money fixing up that early 1960’s bomb shelter and it doesn’t look a bit different….it’s from the ‘farm moderne’ school of design but hey a cool $50K for the little guys new wardrobe.

  1. There’s a reason those other AD’s were withdrawn….they knew they had no idea what they were doing and feared exposure. Bohn at least has an idea.

    1. Omar, if Bohn doesn’t fire Clueless Clay by Monday evening after the UCLA game we will all be howling that Bohn doesn’t know what he is doing. Look how quickly Carol Folt went from hero (for firing Swann) to goat (for allegedly claiming that Urban Meyer was radioactive and putting stipulations on Bohn that UM could not be hired). The next 2 weeks are going to be interesting.

      1. Calabasas —we could be on the edge of a terrible new era. There are growing indications that Scott likes and respects Bohn. I find this ominous. What if they become best friends? Will Scott express sympathy and forgiveness each time our new head football coach sends 13 men on the field?

Excellent, but would add one (previously noted/discussed) opinion/caveat:

Kiffin, hence Garrett’s hiring of, is in a separate, far more complicated category. The Kiffin hire was actually in most respects a stroke of genius – he was still (and subsequent events have given reason to believe there is still the potential – with maturity and opportunity – for this to prove true) a fairly hot commodity in coaching circles, was a link to the Carroll Era, and most importantly, given the foreknowledge of the coming sanctions, served to ensure the presence of an ace recruiting team (most notably that he would bring Coach O with him from Tennessee).

In most respects, “TARMAC!” notwithstanding, it worked brilliantly…no #77 ranked recruiting classes there…or losing seasons…too bad Kiff2019 (with Saban and UCF experience) wasn’t the person who arrived in 2010 (still with Coach O in the fold)…

      3. One thing I’d add to your tags MG…assuming without proving that the present Kiff is a mature, fully capable version of the younger Kiff…you could damn sure bet that he would sell his soul to be ready to go after Saban in Dallas next year…but as you astutely point out, even if he did pull that off, he’d probably come back to LA for the victory rally and immediately say something to piss off everyone!

  2. Apparently the team went to In&Out, because this morning’s headline says “Rakocevic’s double-double leads way.” So I guess the team pulled through the drive through.

  3. Maybe so Commie Lush, but UCLA students aren’t dying like flies like at Clown U. Why just month Nine (9) (count ’em), SUCC student expired, on or near the nations most mediocre private Univ. campus located in an ugly, urban ghetto.

Folts is claiming those deaths are no biggy.

Of course Pinkster, Andyain’twinning says he didn’t know squat about Bland’s extracurricular BB cheating – what a load of BS. Can you smell the NCAA death penalty hovering of the SUCCX BB program?

  4. Mike Bohn has best twitter feed ever. He posts any pic, score, etc. he gets a stream of fire Helton and hire Urban comments. I am sure Folt is getting the same.

No doubt they know how the fan base feels and will be glad when at least half of that equation is fixed. We dint know if Urban will for sure take the job, but we know Helton won’t gave it.
