The USC-UCLA game will kick off at 12:30 p.m. and be televised on ABC.
Meanwhile, did Clay Helton read this week’s 10 things to fix to beat Cal? USC won the coin toss and he actually deferred for the first time.
“I challenged our kickoff coverage as well as our defense, that I wanted them to be able to set the tone tonight. We said it in our team meeting, that if we had the opportunity to win the toss, we were gonna defer and put that strike force out right off the bat and get back on the horse, go cover it and get it down. And the defense, I wanted them to set the tone.”
If you actually read that gibberish quote, here’s the question: If it all makes so much sense, why didn’t you try it earlier in the season?
Gomer has 60 minutes of football left at USC, unless there is OT

The only question is when the announcement is made.

I’m guessing Monday and Gomer will be told Sunday

I’m just hoping this good performance by the team does not save him for another season. He has no positive capital with the fan base and as one writer said we’re all tired of the Helton prouct. Time to move on but hopefully up as well and not from frying pan into fire with a new coach.

I was asking that question here and I wanted to know from anyone why he always chose to be on offense when he won the coin toss? Well too little too late. He is a very rigid person and will go back to his old habits when the Heat subsides. He is just trying to keep his million dollars job. And laugh all the way to the bank. I am tired of this same old process every year .please do not not buy this public relations play. He is into his beating, as Joe Louis did, the bum of the month. And, expect that to cover up his incompetence.

He is forcing Bohn to fire him since he wont resign gracefully like Swann. If they force Swann out he definitely doesnt have a chance.

The ripe and wildly rare opportunity to hire Meyer is there for the taking, especially while he’s in LA every weekend. If USC can’t see that, then we’re all in trouble. At the least, the absolute very least, make him an offer he can’t refuse. If the offer is fair and he does refuse, at least USC is showing they care. That’s all we can ask for after the last 10 years. As for Helton; win-out for the kids and at least show some improvement over last year. After the ucla game, Helton’s USC coaching career should be over. He doesn’t have to be tarmac’d or “fired.” USC can do the termination with grace because Helton is a decent dude. A simple, “We thank Coach Helton for his time as our head coach, but it’s our determination to move our program in a different direction” would be a nice parting of ways.

He didn’t do it earlier because he is still learning on the job and hasn’t developed any (winning) philosophy he believes in. If I recall correctly, he was going to bring back a tough physical running game and defense back to SC when he was hired. We ended up with the flavor of the week in this Mountain West Air Raid cause he couldn’t recruit linemen. We are ending up with a pathetic non-conference schedule because he can’t compete with the Big Boys. End this charade now Bohn.

Sorry folks, Clay stays partly because UM doesn’t want this job nor would he have been offered it.

If Helton returns next season, I believe he SC will lose 10% in ticket sales. They can’t afford to do that.
