Warning: Clay Helton Mentions Pac-12 Championship

During the Trojans Live radio show tonight, Clay Helton said the following:

“We’re on a great roll right here with a chance to win five out of the last six (games) in this second half. You win this game and you put yourself in some really neat opportunities for December. A possible Pac- 12 championship. A high bowl-game opportunity.”

That should send shudders through most USC fans.

Helton also pointed out the absurdity of Cal’s pass coverages.

“We haven’t seen those coverages since Utah,” Helton said.

Like I said Sunday, did Justin Wilcox even watch the USC-Utah game film?

Helton also talked about the UCLA game.

“This can be an exclamation point on the season. It’s a game we really need to take seriously. (UCLA) is a dangerous team. They really found their identity halfway through the season. DTR has really improved.”

Helton said he was excited about the direction of the program.

“Nine of 11 starters are freshmen and sophomores on defense. This is going to be a really good team, not only down the stretch here but in the future.”

    1. I think we are about to see how over-rated are the Utes in their last few games this year. Their schedule this year was primed for a 10-0 to 12-0 run. Their toughest non-con game was BYU–a defacto home game for UU. They went into Los Angeles rested and unchallenged, and dropped an egg vs an already depleted USC O&D. (TRUE, they played us w/o Moss–likely a game changer. But we beat ’em straight up with our 3rd string QB).

They struggled on the road against what is now looking like a mediocre UW team. They missed Oregon in the regular season due to the Larry Scott scheduling rotation. They missed Stanford due to the same scheduling issue. While Stanford has been subpar this year, they play smashmouth football and you always leave the field with a few injuries.

Given their superior coaching, of course they will beat UA and UC Boulder. The Ducks beat ’em in Santa Clara. We’ll see about the bowl game.

Top 10 in America? No. Top 20–sure.
Great Coach? Of Course. Solid D? Always. Innovative O? Idunno.
Shut down Moss and make Huntley beat you with his scrambling and arm.

  1. Nothing NOTHING Clay can do can change his dismal record of sub par coaching. He can dream all he wants but a win by a triple digit score will not make difference. Helton has choices, leave on his terms of be terminated. No other outcome will placate the Helton haters.

    1. My greatest indictment of the CCH years?
All the games lost against inferior opponents from 2015 to Nov 23, 2019.
If I cared to take 2 minutes of my life and look back, I’d count ’em.

  2. Can we finally stop with all of the Anti-Coach Helton negativity…last year, he was forced to face life without Sam Darnold…5-7 is not such a horrible season when you start a turn freshman at QB for 11 games and a back up for one game; a QB, why the way, who’d never taken a live snap–if at all–in a college game that meant anything–…if Jack Sears had done his job, SC would have been going bowling last year….this year, Daniels–in his final play as a USC QB–collapses under a pass rush, and Kedon Slovis– a very raw 3-star freshman takes over….boom, he’s injured, and Matt Fink–formerly of the NCAA transfer protocol is forced into action…BOOM II, SC destroys Utah and everyone is thinking– the Trojans will face “‘bama, Clemson, the Orgeron’s or Ohio State in the final four…but…Injuries happen… sadly, BYU upsets USC…USC falls short against powerhouses ND and UW, despite stellar coaching; licking their wounds after a near loss to a woefully undermanned Colorado team, they are hammered by the Nike Ducks……SC responds by wreaking havoc on Arizona, survives against Ariz ST. and then thrashes a really awful Berkely team…So who could have done a better job, than Helton, Harrell, Pendergas, Bax, et al?
Sure, they’re current recruiting ranking for the 2019/2020 season is between 74 and 77 depending on which service you look at, but, under the circumstances, what could expect?
    Kidding..
HELTON MUST GO–and most of his staff with him–

    1. WA has ‘4’ losses and ‘the princess’ has ‘2’ – they’re both a joke with average head caocahes but I enjoyed your ‘in caps’ what ought to happen to the fat ass Heltonska Chevrolet

  3. If we beat UCLA, Utah has to win both of their remaining games, if they drop one game we are South champs.
If we lose to UCLA, Utah can split their last two games and be South Champs.
    Conference standing
    Utah 6-1
    USC 6-2

    1. Went to the USC-CU game: CU has two FB players on offense (Montez and Shenault). I don’t see UU losing to CU, esp if there is a blanket of snow on the field.

Hard to imagine Kevin Sumlin dialing up a win for Arizona on the road in Utah.

It’s pre-ordained: UU vs the Dux in Santa Clara. Hope the Dux get into the CFP and play well. Then, Utah goes to the Rose Bowl. If UU is lucky, an over-rated Minnesota team goes to the Rose Bowl.

  4. Helton needs to be relieved of his command just for the reason of being insane. Utah will not lose to Arizona and Colorado. Helton has not fixed the defense for SC. Thug U aka ruinville will run outside and run up another 289 yards. The guy has lost it.

  5. He has talent on this team that he can’t coach. Can you imagine where he’d be after a couple of #70 recruiting classes. We’d be worse that Morehead St.
