USC Gets A Commitment!

Everyone knew wide receiver Gary Bryant of Corona Centennial was going to commit to USC and he did it during the Army All-American game today.

Here’s one of Mike Bohn’s silent commits actually delivering!

USC zoomed up to No. 65 in the Rivals recruiting rankings.

Is recruiting going dramatically better? Coach Bohn? Coach?

      1. Try the Holy Ghost……care to commit to Jesus of Nazareth, today? Consider this your alter call.

  1. I don’t know if it’s “dramatically” better —but I see that the major rating service has us at #56 —- with a higher per athlete rating than most of the other Pac 12 schools (over 87 points).
None of this will matter much, of course, if USC sneaks in a 2nd tier D-Coordinator from a small university. IF that happens it means there is nobody on staff that can stand up to Helton on the subject of his lazy-ass practices….AND nobody who Bohn can slip in as Head Coach if Helton flames out in the first 3 or 4 games of 2020.

      1. No need to be sorry, my buddy. Herm has turned Arizona State into a top 25 recruiting machine in 2 fricking years….
[Luckily USC has a better average rating per athlete than UCLA, Cal, Colorado, Oregon State, Arizona, Washington State …or UTAH. But –let’s face it —it looks like the new sheriff in the south might be Coach Edwards]…

      2. First, I’d take Slovis over Daniels- who cares about their ratings. Second, If I’m a recruit looking to stay relatively close to home, play for an excellent coach, and academics isn’t my thing, I pick ASU. ASU also took Jack Jack via the portal. They’ve always had good athletes, it is their DL that is their Achilles.

      3. The research says that SDSU has played decent Defensive football for some years. I suspect that Arnett would be better than CP. Wilcox might have been better than we realized (?). He just met a juggernaut at the wrong time in one Christian McCafferey.

    2. Thanks for the homework on the recruiting stats.
I think USC will do well in the next few years with RB and WR (and hopefully S, CB). My concern in D line and mean/fast/big/strong LB’s.
      Did I mention mean?

Darrell Rideaux brought up the name of Zach Arnett from SDSU for DC, along with the usual other great choices.

      What do you think, MG?

      1. Bourbon — Nothing has really been right with the defense since Coach ‘O’ left. You want swagger? The players need somebody to look up to……

  2. Wow 65 now their making progress! Just what USC needs another WR. Look on the bright side, he’s got the speed to be a deep threat in the vertical game. Hopefully he can come in and contribute in that department right away.

  3. Recruit rankings matter very little when you have a crap coach like Clay Helton running the team.

USC afforded Clay Helton multiple top 5 national recruiting classes these past few years and his second rate coaching ability and incompetent staff have underachieved, they just keep wasting talent.

Very few Trojan recruits/players have managed to overcome Helton’s terrible coaching and been able to take their talent to the next level.

Helton’s lack of player development is not going unnoticed, it’s now common knowledge that he doesn’t know what the hell he’s doing and has no clue when it comes to coaching football.

  4. Wow…nothing against Bryant but this was a total disaster of a day. Most of those announced recruits were ours for the taking.
We are going to receive some Az St, Udub, Oregon butt whippings that will really sting the long time family…….some at home. Of course the wine and cheese crowd will hardly notice.

      1. I guess we shouldn’t be to disappointed GT22 and MG.
Even if we signed 5 Star player’s. Clueless Clay would turn them into 3 Star players!

  5. Then Jesus answered and said, “O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here unto me.”
So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, If you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, Move from here to there, and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.” Matthew chapter 17, verses 17-21….

It’s hard! Yes, even for me…mustard seed? You know how small that is? That means people rarely get there. Therefore, knowing the infirmity of His creation, He asks just a speck of it…..so, I persist and try to endure….

  6. There’s got to be a mathematical formula for determining how many high caliber 4 or 5 or whatever star players it takes to offset Clay’s impact. The Helton Coralary.

    1. I took a lot of math in my years, but I don’t recall that theorem.

My guess is that you multiply the whole number by .1 to get the corollary result?

      1. To fully understand Clay’s impact on a team you have to appreciate the philosophical concept of “reciprocal notions”.

  7. Thank the Good Lord, Helen of Troy, Tommy Trojan, and all the Traveler’s who have graced the Coliseum floor, the helton’s finally signed —yawn—a top California prospect…a 4 star, much needed WR…I’m sure Harrell’s happy…Hopefully this kid can block because not every opponent scheduled for 2020 will be New Mexico…of course, with the great coaching and conditioning the players receive—-sorry I can’t go on with this…disgusting….

  8. Our overall rating on 247sports rose to 56 but our avg rating is 27. Our avg rating is 5th best in the conference. However, 2 of our 3 highest rated players at WR where we already have good talent while the other is an OG. Besides the kicker, our lowest rated players are all offensive linemen. Who is going to protect the QB?
