Jovan Vavic Might Get New Trial

Former USC water polo coach Jovan Vavic could get a new trial after the judge hinted today that a key legal issue could his convinction, according to Law360.com.

The judge in the case expressed “skepticism about whether USC could be considered a victim in the scheme to admit wealthy children through bribery.”

“What was the evidence here of harm to the university, other than the embarrassment once this came out?” Judge Indira Talwani asked government lawyers. “And, if it’s embarrassment, and you can say that’s a legitimate harm, does that give us a problem … that you’re criminalizing bribery because it’s embarrassing for the employer?”

  • Meanwhile, former USC women’s soccer coach Ali Khosroshahin was sentenced to six months of home confinement. He has cooperated with authorities in the case.

    2. Any chance that the NCAA Bush Hit Job wasn’t challenged by USC/Haden because:
    a) Fear that more digging into the USC Athletic Department may have exposed this?
    b) Already exposed, known to the Infractions Committee, and USC/Haden got leveraged?
    Something still stinks about this.

    2. Thank you yesterday you. I always wondered about this and it being coincidental that Haden didn’t pursue it any further. Not too many people bring it up. I’ve talked to other USC fans and they don’t even know anything about this scandal of Haden being a grifter to benefit himself and his family.

How bout the university’s culpability (even without direct knowledge) in the hiring of the AD who may or may not have known but was too scared to police a rogue associate AD (also hired by the university) and just put her on her own island at Galen to weave her greedy web after threatening to throw her weight around about title IX compliance. That got her out from under his roof and a pain in his ass but got her isolated to do her debauchery with no reigns. Setting up a poor hierarchy with people unqualified and inexperienced to lead (see Haden, swann, heinel) that my friends is on the university. And that is assuming the best case scenario (that the university knew nothing. It’s already been proven that Stanford AD knew and the university benefited by 775 million and they said they were the victims yet they haven’t given any of the money back. The coach that was thrown under the bus (sailing) never received a dime and was told by the AD to keep up the relationship with Singer. Just a small amount of money was going into the sailing program for scholarships and to fund the the salery for a lone assistant coach. They can the head coach who didn’t make a dime, can’t get a job and was incarcerated, and raised millions for the university with admin knowledge then claim they are the victim and keep the money, and their jobs Sounds like usc saw the playbook template from Stanford . It’s true that it’s a bit different since an associate AD was active in fabrication but that should even give the university even more culpability since it’s closer to the top

    1. …and what are the chances a certain Wanda Austin-endorsed saint/coach didn’t smell something wrong when some of his “walk -ons” never showed up ….let alone never suited up?
      [btw, NOBODY is defrauded if EVERYBODY was aware of what was going on — to be a victim of fraud you have to have RELIED to your detriment on the fraudulent misrepresentation]…..
