I hope George Kliavkoff was on the phone with ESPN this morning, especially since the network actually needs the Pac-10 now that the Big Ten is moving to NBC.

  2. Wow- The Nebraska football program and Brand name in College Football has really slipped over the years. Nebraska, changed to more of finesse style of football, and got away from the physical part of the game which made them so successful under Tom Osborne. Our Trojans made the same mistake let’s hope Coach Riley restores the program after USC also made made similar mistakes in the hiring of football coaches.

    1. I still think Scott Frost is an outstanding offensive coach. Their problem is their defense. But I would give him a few more years to correct that. They were 3-9 last year. But if you look at the scores, they lost all 9 games by 9 points or less

      1. The guy is 3-21 when trailing at halftime. A clear indication he’s not coaching material at the Power 5 level. I’m not sure what you were basing your perception off of.

        Moral victories only count for UCLA!

    1. Fox guys must have been watching espn and made up for it. espn sucks, always has. What I am seeing today on tv, the networks are acting like it is 2024 already. espn wants to hype the SEC, everyone else is hyping everything but the SEC. They need to realize we don’t care what they think, just do football like they should, leave the favoritism to us fans.

    2. I can understand why the fans would probably want to get rid of Scott Frost. If I was the school president I would give him 2 more years. He always seems to step up to the competition. When he was a QB at Nebraska, he was certainly not a multi talented QB. Yet he led them to a NC in 1997. As an OC at Oregon, they were in the top 6 in the nation in offense every year that he was there. One year he was 2nd in the voting for the Broyles award(best assistant in the nation). He was undefeated one year at Central Florida. Whoever they bring will have a hard time winning big at Nebraska. The best players are black. If they are really good and they can go anywhere they want to go, why would they want to go to a white town like Lincoln out in the boon docks when they can go to more exciting towns in the Big Ten or anywhere? They’ll probably fire him and I can understand that. You can’t ignore the fans. You ask me what I am basing my perception on. You can call it a hunch but I just don’t think that this guy is a Clay Helton

    1. Unless they have a great season this year, they will probably fire him and we’ll never see what he can do. I just don’t think that just anyone will step into that program in todays culture and do what Devaney and Tom Osbourne did in just a few years. Not in todays culture. You’re either going to give a coach some time or you will keep hiring and paying big money, hoping that you will get lucky.

    1. Los Al defense is horrendous. They can’t tackle. They miss 2 or 3 tackles on every play. They look dead out there. Maybe it is the Florida humidity. They were dragging to the LOS. That team will never beat the good teams. A lot of skill players but very weak on the O and D lines.
      Malachi Nelson has a great arm and is very athletic(very mobile). But they are going to have to work on his accuracy. Not too accurate. The first play of the game they tried a flee flicker. It fooled Heritage. The receiver was wide open. Nelson threw it 10 yards over his head.
      The one who surprised me was Makai Lemon. I thought they were bringing him in just to get Nelson since the two wanted to go as a package. But he looked great. He caught 17 passes for over 200 yards and 3 TD’s. I definitely underestimated him.

      1. Makai Lemon also had a 97 yard kick off return called back. He also had a 65 yard TD pass called back because of a stupid block. Lemon was at the 5 yard line ready to go into the end zone when a Los Al player blocked a Heritage player from behind at about the 40 yard line. There was no reason to touch that player. He wasn’t within 30 yards of Lemon.

      2. Lemon was definitely the offensive workhorse for LA. His separation off the LOS, against future D1- DBs, was next-level quality, and his conditioning was exceptional.

        Nelson looked smooth and composed, you’re right, his accuracy left some points off the board.

        The big back from Florida was a man against the boys, 6-2, 235. The poor arm tackling and overall defensive play were horrendous, as you mentioned

      1. Darnold’s played for some bad teams and coaches, relatively speaking. As great as he was at USC, I wouldn’t be surprised if he steps away in a year or two. Ideally Darnold gets traded to a quality organization like the Rams to be a backup. Still a really young guy.

      3. I also thought Sam was going to be a future star in the NFL. It just goes to show you how competitive it is to hold down a starting position.

        I read have often heard, that the QB position in the NFL is the hardest position to play in all of the professional sports…. I agree!

    2. Frankly I was happy ESPN skipped over Pac12 when discussing conference champions. I prefer not hearing all the tributes to UTAH. I like Wittingham, but really, enough praise for the strongest team in a very weak conference. During helton hell, anyone was better than we. I’m tired of the big fish in a small pond.

  10. Disney is hyping up High School football featuring a bevy of SEC top recruits. Nelson & Lemon Brown Branch are going to make D coordinators lose jobs, from my point of view. Out west QB, WR, RB,, DB, we always be in Cali, elite physical lineman will be in the midwest and south. That is due to the how southern and midwestern eat. Just look how big there HS OL/DL are in Los Al’s n American Heritage USC has to show it can be physical against every team period, we can’t keep losing our OL/DL to SEC, BIG.

    1. Don’t worry. They’re big in the south and midwest because they eat all those hamburgers and steaks. But according to Bill Gates, all of the burgers and steaks will soon be banned and we will all be eating substitute meat made of cricket and insect flour. When that happens, those O and D linemen in the south and midwest will all be vegan and skinny like our kids on the left coast. Their advantage will be gone.

      1. I agree with you on that PM007, but let’s keep it real. On the left coast we have too many things to do, better weather and without humidity of the south. Plus they eat dinner food for breakfast. My roots are from Alabama n Arkansas. When, I visited my grandparents breakfast was served at 6:00 am. Eggs, grits, rolls, biscut,steak, chicken mash potatoes, waffles, cinnamon rolls, milk and juice. Then I had to do work from 7-10, lunch served at 11:00, Rolls, hotlinks southern style gravy n rice, leftover chicken from breakfast, potatoes, vegetables,. Dinner ham, meatloaf, collard greens, sweet potatoes, macaroni and cheese, corn bread, black eye peas, apple pie, soda or juice. That is lineman are so big at a young age. Same thing for midwest only difference is at different times of the year they are forced to stay inside due to weather, but they also throw down in some midwest states. My grandmother made me eat a portion of everything that was on the table, I could not leave the table until I finished. I took my little ass back to Cali and gained 8 pounds in two weeks. Dammit JESSIE I couldn’t eat too much when I got back due oversaturation of carbs.

  11. ESPN is owned by Disney as is ABC, but it a losing company and will probably be put up for sale soon. They are one, maybe two steps above the PAC 12
    Weird thought given that Disney has close ties to USC

  16. The SEC has always scheduled for success. Maybe that’s what SC should think about doing. Those SEC powerhouses play cupcakes when they are not playing against each other. Whenever they play west coast teams, they always play them on their home field or on a neutral site like Dallas, which is a lot closer to the south than it is to LA. The only time they will ever play a west coast team on the west coast is if they have to in a bowl game. Correct me if I’m wrong but, off the top of my head, I don’t remember any SEC team ever playing SC in the coliseum.

After 11:00 on a Saturday night, and most of our 30-or-so active Wolf posters (Hereinafter referred to as ‘the ‘Amazing-30-Gang’ et al) are undoubtedly either tucked away in their bed, sweetly asleep– or dead…. But I got my money on them being Still Alive, similar to the song, “I’m stayin’ alive!’

    Anyway. I have carefully observed The-Amazing-30′ and how they succumbed to Wolf’s carefully-crafted Web-Site, and now We-30 are under the Wolf-Spell and devote more time to Wolf than is good for us.

    Of course, most of us would go to war with Wolf, , if it was the right war to
    Scottie’s liking.

    And despite at times having to trudge through thick-and-thin here, the various writings have all been pretty good although not quite of a good-grade. The constant humorless carping over political differences
    puts me to sleep. That is the ultimate insult for a writer.

    So stop it. Try using satire, a lighter-touch, to drive home your point. You don’t have to be funny, just be different with your particular point-of-view.

    So it sounds like I have some regrets in my life. Not true, or as Frank Sinatra sang, “Regrets, I’ve had a few, but too few to mention” Ditto for me.

    This blog has given the ‘Amazing 30-Posters’ the opportunity to develop-and expand their writing talents. Practice makes perfect, or more correctly stated, practice improves one’s writing-standing.

    So let us all keep-at-it, writing is a fine hobby. Just don’t take yourself or views so dog-gone seriously.– It makes for better reading!

        And let me guess what the 15% is with which you disagree– Injecting some satire into our political “discussions.” When you’re peddling (affectionately stated) your-read on the State-of-the-Union, you sometimes manage to keep it light, but the other posters often do a little implode-explode number. (Darn that ’75, if he doesn’t now have me counting my commas).

  21. FYI….. Today is the championship game of the Little League World Series.- 12:00pm(PT). Hawaii vs Curaçao. ….ABC network

    I tend to make it an annual event to follow the week of games, and pay homage to my days as a Little Leaguer.

    I’m sure MG and the state of Hawaii are extremely proud of these young men.

      I am very proud. I watch the kids play basketball and baseball at the parks here in Maui when I’m out for walks — and I’m constantly in awe of their skill level. What makes it extra-sweet is the parent participation…..and the and civility they demonstrate!
