USC and UCLA officially join the Big Ten one year from today.
It’s going to be quite a first year for the Trojans, with non-conference games against LSU and Notre Dame plus road trips to Maryland, Northwestern, Penn State, Purdue, UCLA.
The home games are Illinois, Iowa Michigan, Wisconsin.
A Pac-12 coach recently told me he doesn’t think Lincoln Riley will enjoy it.
“I suspect he won’t be around too long for that,” the coach said. “I think he’ll be in the NFL. The Big Ten’s going to be a tough situation with the travel, the level of competition.
“The teams are physical. How has Lincoln Riley done against physical teams over the years?”

What has the Big 10 done to get all this respect? USC has been kicking their ass for years. Other than Ohio State nobody in that conference can match up. How is is any different than playing Oregon state on Thursday night on road in November. Scott is drinking the Koolaid.

hey – the B10 money juices our enowment return by 1%. USC has ALWAYS been about the money. I speak to someone in USC Planned Giving on a semiannual basis when I contemplate staying in the support group for my school and we had a good laugh one time about the “great deal” Andrew Viterbi got for getting a school named after him for “only” $50M.

If SC goes undefeated, that will be awesome. That is a very tough and brutal schedule. If Riley leaves, then SC needs a coach with a more physical attitude and teaching the players to be more physical.

When you play in the cold, always remember that both teams are playing in the cold. Does cold relate to running slower or being unable to pass the ball? Can’t quite figure out why the cold, especially these days, is so scary to some people.

Travel takes up most of a day and adding 2 more hours to a flight really doesnt change much. For basketball and any sport that plays alot more games, this might be a nightmare.

All this BS about the Big 10…
Utah is an extremely physical team and Rice Eccles is one of the most difficult places to play because of the altitude and weather and crowd. We have played plenty of games in bad weather against Oregon State and Wazzu, etc. Oregon State has one of the most physical offensive lines in the country this year.
Yes, the Big 10 is a bit more physical on average, but they dont have the incredible QBs that we will be facing this year in the Pac-12. Recent coaching changes in the Pac-12 have significantly upgraded the level of the conference.
What makes that schedule so tough next year is the LSU game and Notre Dame game on top of the Big 10 schedule. Brutal.
The big difference between college football and the NFL is the roster. At USC, Riley can dip into the transfer portal and high schools and pull out a roster that is better than 90% of the opponents. If you are OK with putting in the work to recruit, you give yourself a huge advantage. That doesnt exist in the NFL.
Why would he leave when he can create a dynasty at USC? the recruiting will get easier every year if he wins at the CFP level.
I’m tired of the talk about how tough the Big 10 is. The Pac-12 will have more teams that are in the top 10 this season than the Big 10, imo.

I have been saying for several years, Lincoln Riley will end up with either the Rams or the Chargers. McVay was close to quitting and the charger coach should’ve been fired. Riley already could have been gone, but just give it a few more years. One of those two coaches will be out and Riley will be in.
Also don’t forget to factor in the changes to the weather there’s chances Usc may not be able to travel in the winter due to extreme weather conditions; what happens how do you make up those games?
