Is USC Going Undefeated?

L.A. Times columnist Bill Plaschke predicted USC would go 12-0 in the regular season.

But he stopped there, apparently, with predictions. Theoretically, 12-0 doesn’t mean you make the College Football Playoff because you could still lose in the Pac-12 title game.

Well, at least he didn’t say Los Angeles belongs to UCLA. Then again, that didn’t work out too well so maybe saying USC will go 12-0 is a kiss of death.

  • Five-star defensive end Eddrick Houston of Buford, Ga., will make his commitment announcment on Tuesday. USC is one of five finalists.

  1. SC going undefeated is a big deal Plaschke? We would need a lot of breaks to go our way. 1 No major injuries 2 key starters 2. Defense has to be stout n tackle. 3. OL must be the most improved unit.

    1. Going 12-0 …and….doing it by beating Notre Dame, Utah, Washington, Oregon and UCLA in a row without a bye probably gets us into the playoffs even if we lose the championship game …..

      1. agreed. we only lost one regular season game last year and that was by 1 point at utah with a defense that virtually had no linebackers that could tackle after gentry went down (gentry was only OK). we had one good d-lineman.

key injuries could stop USC, but otherwise, I put the team undefeated.

last year, Caleb had to be superman and put the team on his back. this year, the defense and o-line will be better.

the formula is simple. an offense that has a better receiver corp, better short yardage run blocking and better pass blocking and more mature QB = 50 points a game average. defense, vastly improved linebackers and d-line. better secondary. shave 14 points a game off opponents from last year.

      LOL!

Plaschke never gets tired of exposing himself as a fucking idiot.

I don’t know which Ladies of Troy fanboy is a bigger idiot, Plaschke or Ryan Abraham.

  2. 12-0 is like something nobody wants to predict and put a jinx on it. There is no reason USC cannot run the table this season. Including the championship game. They do it and they will be like a #1 or #2 ranked. I can see all Georgia, Alabama, and tOHS going in with a loss if they go to CFP at all. Michigan is way over rated also. Tennessee could be a factor and Ole Miss may pull a surprise along the way. LSU seems to think they are really good. I am not sold. Penn St will pull an upset out of their hat in spite of their coach. Please don’t tell me the ACC has a contender. In that conference there is only Clemson and they are not there yet, neither is FL St. Take it to the bank.

    1. Only Michigan, Penn St Ole Miss, LSU, TX OU, USC, return QB starters, Washington Oregon Utah not to be considered. Ala , Vols,Dogs, Ohio St breaking in new QB’s which will be a factor for sure. My bet is Bama, Georgia, OSU will play conservative in the beginning until the coaches see Qb’s can handle the pressure of big time CFball. The theme of this year Defense Defense n more D. If all transfers plays to their lofty TRP ranking n mesh with the returning players and they live up to the HS hype : Ditto Jackson, Foreman J. Smith R. Smith Heights etc….. U see where I’m going then we would have a great chance to do something special.

    2. my hope is that Oregon State is the surprise of the season and goes undefeated during the regular season and it is undefeated #2 USC versus #5 Oregon State for the Pac-12 championship. that would be fun. beat oregon state and maybe the team is even #1, if georgia struggles at all.

    3. USC can go undefeated in the regular season and win the PAC 12 championship and still not get voted into the Playoffs. If Clemson goes undefeated and beats a Florida St team that only loses to Clemson but has wins against LSU and Florida, then Clemson will have a better conference strength of schedule and more consideration since Garrett Riley would give Clemson an edge over his brother.

      Politics strikes again.

  5. It is always difficult to go undefeated in your first 12 games. Even when Pete had incredible teams, he lost to Oregon St. and Stanford and almost lost to Washington State and Oregon. But I think we can do it. There are two pivotal games on the road. ND and Oregon. We were more physical than ND last year and this year we will be better in the trenches and we are clearly more talented at the skill positions than ND. And I think Oregon is overrated. Bo Nix is no Caleb Williams and the Oregon defense was just as bad as us last year. Washington may be a solid match-up but we have them at home. Same with Utah who like ND lost their big tight end. A reasonable chance that we run the board.

  6. The first three games are trap games. USC can fall into the trap of thinking all games will be that easy.
By halftime of the third game USC will be showing their true colors. If they are kicking some Cardinal buts they can go undefeated.

  9. Scooter,

SC needs a defense. Big time defense in order to go 12-0. Special teams might help with making field goals.

  10. Bill Plaschke is a Kentuckian. Usually people from Kentucky can be nonconformist and contrarian. Once again, USC better have a run attack that’s strong and healthy as well as a defense that’s stout all season against the run against every opponent. But there should be no more examples of USC being out coached by any opponent on their schedule.
