One Thing Missing From USC Depth Chart

USC’s depth chart was missing one thing: Special teams.

We know Eddie Czaplicki will be the punter and Denis Lynch will kick field goals and extra points. But it’s always nice to see official confirmation and who is returning punts and kickoffs. Zacariah Branch has been involved in both during training camp. Raleek Brown is still a candidate on kick returns.

  • I forgot about this play from the 2018 Rose Bowl. It only enhanced Lincoln Riley’s reputation with special teams. Georgia got a field goal to end the half and eventually won the game.

    1. #1 USC 35, #5 Ohio State, 3 — OSU barely records 200 yards of total offense.

Scottie ranks USC #3 afterwards. If the score had been 49-0 instead, which it could have been, maybe he would have ranked them #4.

      1. 2008 is the season that pisses me off the most, even more than 2003. Seeing Oklahoma in the BSC Title game instead of USC that year still makes me sick. Another example of the politics in the voting and the SEC being protected. Timmie Tebow threw 2 picks and only put up 24 points against a defense that gave up over 40 against Texas and Oklahoma State and over 30 to both Kansas schools.

      2. The 2008 defense was the greatest in USC history that didn’t win a natty. … If I recall correctly, all the first-game starters eventually played in the NFL. The linebacker play was ridiculous. That ass whipping against the buckeys’s was something special.

      1. I think NOT.

UCLA BB: 11 NCAA competitive BB National Championships.

bozo BB: OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ferever; and damn proud of it.

Oh wait, Sixty-nine (69) years ago, bozo BB made the 1954 Final Four and finished Fourth (4th)…LFOL.

Cue: Bronny’s two (2) finger Chopsticks

    1. That does bother me, but the competition is fierce in that receiver room. Jakobi Lane and Duce and Zach and Makai are making it tough to get on the field.

I would like to see Taj and Mario and Brendon have really big seasons and get drafted high. Last season there were times I thought they should bench Rice for all the drops, but I hope he has a break-out year.

  2. If I were an SC betting man I would stay away from this game
San Jose St has a returning quarterback and entire offensive line
They have to be good for at least 17 points.
So SC would have to come up with at least 47-points
and I don’t see SC being that polished this early
and likely second stringers will see extensive playing time

    1. The SJSU O line is not very good. The unit gave up a lot of sacks and SJSU can’t run the ball. Expect lots of pressure from our front 7 and some turnovers. And SJSU won’t slow down our offense. My prediction: It’s over by halftime. USC wins 55 to 17 and covers the spread.

Why is Cal’s athletic department 450 million in the red? Why field teams if the incoming revenue can’t support the programs. Cal is the new orphan of college sports….HAHA!

  3. I understand the comment regarding Zacariah Branch on Kickoff Returns. But having a Punt Returner indicates the Defense will stop somebody.

  4. On a political note, did anyone see the Republican debate last night?

Do Christie, Pence and Haley really think they have a chance to win? They are parroting the same old lines that people rejected when they made Trump the nominee.

Vivek was the only breath of fresh air. You could tell that the audience and the old timers hated Vivek. I wish he had just called them out on merely being a different face for the “deep state” or unelected bureaucracy or uni-party system, whatever you want to call that DC bunch of goons.

i have never loved Trump, but next to those fossils, I can see why he dominates the party.

Trump + Vivek + RJF Jr = Dropping a political nuke on DC from the American people who are Fed-up. Although I actually prefer RFK Jr as pres.

You have offended my wife, my mother and my father. All sexual inferences. I let the first two go because they are both deceased but not my wife. You are the one who offended my family, not visa versa. I have never brought your wife or parents into anything. It is therefore my call – boxing gym in Pasadena CA, Mr. tough guy. Give me a date and I will make the arrangements. Stop being a chickensh*t.

And nobody believes you are friends with Dana White. If you ever read the news, he is a staunch conservative who left the country during Covid so that the Dems. couldn’t shut down UFC. He wouldn’t allow a pussy leftist like yourself anywhere near his octagon. Rummaging the dumpster outside of the premises for plastic bottles redeemable for 20 cents doesn’t mean you know Dana White you leftist, racist, pussy.

        Give me available dates.

  7. @Gabby 4 Senior Linebackers. All Starters in the NFL their rookie year in 2009. One future NFL Defensive Player of the year (Matthews 2010). One NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year (Cushing 2009). Plus Rey Maualuga. 8 Second Half Shutouts. Would have been 9 if Haubaugh didn’t call a Time Out with one Second left and we gave up a TD on the last play of the game. Held Oregon to 10 points, and only a FG in the last 55 Minutes of that game. They averaged over 41 points that year. It was ridiculous.

  8. Cal and Stanford are being voted on to join the new Pac 12 conference the ACC. Football and the basketball teams. Absolutely no money being spent by any network to make this happen. Meanwhile, Florida St will use this addition to scream terms of the “contract” for grants of rights and membership are in violation and try to null and void the amount of money they will have to pay to leave the ACC. Who wins? The lawyers, as usual. Who’s fault is all of this?
