USC remained No. 6 in the Associated Press and Coaches’ Top 25 polls. That is the same ranking the Trojans had in the preseason polls.

Florida State, after its victory over LSU, leapfrogged USC and is No. 4 in the AP poll; No. 5 in the Coaches’ poll.

Washington is the next-highest ranked Pac-12 team. The Huskies are No. 8 in both polls. The full polls are here and here.

  • Meanwhile, Caleb Williams remains the Heisman favorite according to BetOnline. Travis Hunter has made a big move and is close behind.

  1. These polls are hilarious 😂 A competitive top ten team can run through the Trojans defense like water, but they’re ranked # 6… really? Lincoln Riley is a great offensive coordinator, but an average head coach at best. . He’s definitely the definition of a Mike Leach disciple, all offense and no defense .

    1. The USC formula will be to outscore any opponent. If the formula works, we will score a minimum of 40 points and will need to stop an opponent about 4-5 times in a close game.

I am as concerned about the offensive line as I am the defense, simply because the USC success formula is buit on an unstoppable offense.

We have seen Alabama and Georgia give up big numbers to elite offenses.

This also assumes we never lose the turnover game.

  2. Don’t care. Wake me up when conference play and USC is actually on a TV channel most of the people get. None of the East Coast voters have even seen a USC game. A 10:30pm and a 6:30pm start, c’mon.

      1. Believe it or not, even though they almost always find a way to lose, Nebraska has a bunch of players who were Top 50 at their position coming out of high school ….

  3. I still doubt Deion Sanders and his team of transfers otherwise known as Colorado. The offense has some good players at the still positions but cannot run the ball and they can’t play defense. TCU could have won by just running the ball between the tackles. And Colorado has no depth. They are a 6-6 team at best. And what are the odds of Travis Hunter making it through the season while going both ways? I hope Deion doesn’t hurt the kid.

You just described the USC football team

      1. I was thinking that as I wrote it Buddha. But I think that our front 7 on defense is much better than Colorado. I don’t think teams will be able to consistently run between the tackles on us. I am counting on Barr and Bear. And we have a better pass rush than Colorado. Byrd and Jamil Muhammad look good.

  4. I have to say the east coast bias is back. Just because everyone guaged LSU much better than they actually are, Florida State’s one win is better then our two. Look where they put LSU, at 14. They should be right there with Clemson but if they did that the voters would look like they didn’t know what they were doing in the first place. Which is often a fact. I hate all polls before week 5, they are a waste of time, and here I am bitching about them yet again.

    1. BTW, George, I think I’ll get around to watching your girl in “The Queen’s Gambit” before I watch “Last Night in SoHo”.

I loved chess as a youth. Though I never played with a clock.

      1. You will really like “Queens Gambit” if you enjoy chess. Also the movie “The Coldest Game”, set during the the Cuban Missile Crisis.

      2. The clock actually helps you focus, So Cal. I wasn’t really into fencing at USC until they hooked our foils to the green and red lightbox —after that, it’s on.

AND SOHO IS A REALLY GOOD MOVIE

I ENJOYED IT ENOUGH TO WATCH IT TWICE

        RE CHESS
I ENJOYED IT A LOT BUT NEVER WAS A REALLY GOOD PLAYER
        PLAYED JUST FOR FUN

PLAYED WITH A CLOCK ONLY ONCE

HOW CAN THOSE GUYS PLAYBLINDFOLDED AND PLAY TWENTY GAMES AT THE SAME TIME WHILE BLINDFOLDED??

      4. George — I’m so awful at chess it really doesn’t make a difference one way or the other if I’m blindfolded….

  5. I don’t think that Caleb will win the Heisman. I don’t think that anyone will ever win it twice in a row like Archie Griffin did. I don’t think that the Heisman committee will ever give it to anyone twice in a row again. Then there are all of the trojan haters who are voters.

    1. Caleb’s reason for winning last year is his incredible ability to scramble and throw. But at some point if he cant find targets and release the ball in 2.5 seconds, people will start to realize that all that running is the result of a problem with not getting the ball out.

Riley said Caleb needs to improve and I think that is true.
