The Friday USC Column Supplement

For the second time this season, the USC game will have Tim Brando and Spencer Tillman as the announcers for Fox Sports.

So here’s my one story that sort of involves Brando. I was in Charlotte, N.C., for the NCAA Tournament and on a day off, went to dinner with George Raveling, who brought his TV broadcast partner, Brando.

Raveling picked the restaurant, of course, because he knows where to eat in every city in the U.S. He takes us to a nice restaurant in Charlotte that has about 30 people waiting outside and 20 people inside for a table.

So we follow Raveling in and I expect to wait an hour for a table. Instead, Raveling blows through the crowd (who naturally notices a 6-foot-5 guy) and I gingerly followed. We go straight to a table. No wait.

It was a classic Rav move because he always had connections. When he coached at USC, he would rent a van (not a car) on road trips because he would always take a group a writers to his favorite restaurants in whatever Pac-12 city the Trojans were playing in.

  • The fact USC plays Arizona State reminds me the official USC beer has a Sparky (the ASU mascot) lookalike on the can.

I usually think endorsements are overblown but the truth is I never heard of this beer beforehand and now I notice it when I go to the market. So that means the endorsement deal worked, right?

  • The USC-Arizona State game is officially a sell out. If you are going to the game, this is important because a lot of fans normally take the Mill Ave. bridge to the stadium.

  1. Good for the Arizona St fans to show up; if it were in reverse with SC floundering as it was under Ton-o-Hel there’d be maybe 35,000 in the coliseum

And Rav is a throw-back to when men knew how to be generous. I have always picked up restaurant tabs for my group

      2. Good call, tebow. It would be a horrible day if America began protecting its sovereignty the way Israel does…

      3. Dementia Joe doesn’t take National Security seriously enough to secure our borders. But seeing how that was his campaign slogan, it’s really on the fools who voted for it. Half our country doesn’t believe in borders.

      4. The illegals aren’t the problem. Neither is BLM and Antifa. The real problem are the american soccer moms and their insane desire to raise their kids their way. Don’t they know that the kids belong to the state?

HOW A FRIENDLY FIRE TRAGEDY IN SICILY TRANSFORMED AIRBORNE WARFARE

During 1943’s Operation Husky, fire from ship and shore killed dozens of Americans — and provided the Allies with a costly lesson.

      2. 😩 😩 😩

I’m incapable of rational thought. 😩 😩 😩 I default to hyperbole and moronic arguments. I can’t voice a logical opinion so I resort to crude hand gestures. Now take me seriously!!! 😩 😩 😩

      3. Isreal has 200,000 rockets pointed at a small state about the size of New Hampshire(and only about 7 million people many of whom are palestinians) with threats from the Palestinians that they will eventually blow them off of the map and yet, somehow, they are the Goliath and the Palestinians are the David.
It’s true what they say……if the palestinians would just put down their guns and rockets, there would be peace in the middle east. If the Isrealis would just put down their guns and rockets, there would be no Isreal. Yet, somehow, the jews are the thugs and the Palestinians are the victims. Go Figure!!!

      1. Answer to 67’s question re tebow: No.
btw, If you study Israeli film and television you’ll see tremendous sympathy for the plight of the Palestinians & efforts to reach out …. their government just doesn’t have a death wish for their own country the way ours does…

  2. Correct me if I’m wrong but think it was George Raveling who said he knew Rick Majerus wasn’t going to take the USC Men’s BB job because he wasn’t married…..what <48 hrs after Daryll Gross thought it was a done deal….it wasn't
