USC Drops Three Spots In AP Poll

USC dropped three spots in the AP Top 25 poll and is now ranked No. 8 in the nation.

The Trojans dropped one spot in the coaches’ poll and are ranked No. 6.

Colorado, who plays USC next week, dropped out of both Top 25 polls following its loss to Oregon.

In the AP poll, Washington is ranked No. 7 and Oregon No. 9.

    1. Exactly. [May I be snide, my friend? The pollsters are only voting that way cuz Lincoln looked confused, Grinch was actually flushed & red-faced on the sidelines, Caleb was letting the clock go to zero on every snap and a 2 star running back was running right thru our tackles into the endzone ]—

      1. There is THAT, MG, but in the big picture isn’t this more fun than the 7-Year Reign of ‘Ton-o-Hel?’
And as in chess every football game plays out differently-
Like who predicted the SC-ASU development?

    2. By the time Washington, WAZZU, Oregon St., Oregon, Utah and possibly even UCLA are done with this shit Alex Grinch defense the Ladies of Troy should be out of the Top 25 altogether.

‘Ol Mule Shoe is too in love with his boyfriend Alex Grinch to give a shit about establishing a defense, he’s never going to fire Grinch

I get it now, Wolfe allows you that person to keep creating accounts because he must maintain so many accounts to get his $$$ quota. So elementary my dear?

  1. If anyone would use their eyeballs and rank teams on performance to date, USC should be behind Washington State, Utah, Washington, and Oregon at this time. Personally, I cannot stand watching the Big 12 Football I knew Riley would bring here. Next year without Caleb Williams, anyone want to project how bad this will look? This year, still expecting at least 3 losses.

      1. As long as USC beats Notre Dame and UCLA I’ll be happy —we are not a National Champion team….

    1. I think we played the way an overconfident team plays against a 35 point underdog. That is on the coaches. [The only thing I’m worried about is Lincoln seems a bit more like a spoiled elitist brat each week —and players don’t put up with that for long]….

      1. Wiley is going through a bit of a rough patch these days
He may be still adapting to Big-City ways
But yeah, no doubt Wiles has a big ego but is not likely an “elistist”

      2. I think you’re mostly right —but the ‘super exec’ , beltway spiel about not wanting to waste 5 minutes parking was probably a big turnoff to high school recruits who are dealing with somewhat more difficult environments every day of their lives…

      3. Took me a little while, but it seems to me that SC was looking past ASU to the game against MUCH HYPED Colorado. These guys love the spotlight. Colorado was the name on everyone’s mind this past week and that had to be in the Trojans’ heads. They’ll be looking straight ahead now, I believe and be up to the task.

  2. The funny thing about the polls? None of the voters were at the game —they watched it on tv…. and they, apparently, lazily accepted the evaluations of the broadcasters…..
Yes, USC looked confused. They also still possess the same potential to be great they possessed last week.

    1. I’m glad all the East Coast voters didn’t see SC up only 6 points and ASU with the ball with 11 minutes left in the 4th quarter.

    2. In many cases, the game announcers don’t know as much about SC as you and I do. We follow one team closely. They follow the whole country. Many times I’ve heard these announcers make comments about SC that I know are not true.
I do think SC’s defense is better this year than last year. They are dominating the LOS more. They do have better players up front. When you get 10 sacks and 17 tackles for loss you can’t complain. The problem is that they are not disciplined. They can get into the offensive backfield but they don’t protect their gaps and as a result they give up a lot of big plays.
Then there’s that secondary which needs a lot of work. The defense is better but I still have questions about this defense. ASU’s offense is not very good. If they can score 28 against SC’s defense, then SC is going to have trouble against the really good offenses like ND, UCLA, Washington, Oregon and even Utah and don’t forget Arizona.

      1. Another open question : If USC experienced trouble [some, not much, but some] with the worst defense in the conference what will happen when they face the best [Utah]?

      2. Fortunately Utah has zero offense without Risen- that UCLA game was a snoozefest.

  3. USC looked confused on offensive and the problems with the defense resurfaced. But this may be a silver lining. The talent exists and the problems are fixable. Better to fix them now then be exposed by Notre Dame in a few weeks.

    1. The talent is there and the problems are fixable but that was also true in the earlier days of Clay Helton. They problem is that he never fixed them. He just talked about fixing them. LR sees problems and fixes them. But what about Grinch?

  4. I knew we would drop based on our defensive effort. Now use the poll placement for motivation, each coach n player should be better from this point on. To me it feels like our season is slipping away. Tell me I’m being too critical but we cannot play like this no more if we expect to be considered for a chance to play in the CFP.

    1. We can answer a lot of questions next week, 7112. Deion will have Colorado as ready as they can be —- and never count the Pac 12 refs outta things —

      1. Agree MG, it’s mind boggling how unprepared we look each n every week. LR this is what I’m suggesting to you. 1) Put your whole coaching staff on notice letting them they will be let go 2) Practice at the Coli n let people in free to simulate hostile crowd like So Fi with 40whiner fans. 3) Get over trying to control the outside voices media alums are not the issue, it’s you n your coaching philosophy.

      2. Big “Yes!” The attempt to silence a reporter was not only stupid… it was a glimpse into the psyche of a coach who’s taking his eye off the ball —- it’s not about being called “coach’, it’s about acting like a coach and getting the most outta your players [the way Kyle Whittingham does week in & week out]….

  5. I wish LR would listen to someone who is a better coach than him. Seems to me he won’t last past 2025-2026, this is LA not Oklahoma we breed champions, Dodgers, Lakers, …..USC It’s real simple simplify your signals for both sides of the ball, SIMPLIFY SIMPLIFY every thing just let your players play on instinct n guts n that will help them become mentally tougher.

    1. …yes…. and adopt the Whittingham philosophy: “We are stronger than you, knock us down and we’ll get up…you have to kill us to beat us…and we’re not gonna die easy.”

    2. I agree!!! When we get a third and five, and the ASU fans are screaming, don’t start checking down. No body can hear, and the play clock runs out.
