USC Morning Buzz: One Thing In Common With Notre Dame

USC and Notre Dame look similar to me in one way: Neither is well-coached at the moment.

You can joke it’s the 10 vs. 10 Bowl because both teams have had issues with 10 men on the field but it’s a sign that neither is exactly hitting a home run in the coaching dept. this season.

That wasn’t supposed to be the case with USC. Notre Dame has a first-time head coach, at least in Marcus Freeman.

Something has to give Saturday when two less-than-stellar coaching staffs meet. Who breaks first?

  • For the first time this season, Caleb Williams is not the favorite for the Heisman Trophy according to this week’s odds from BetOnline. Michael Penix Jr. is the new favorite at 2/1. Williams is second at 5/2 and Bo Nix third at 6/1.

That’s three Pac-12 QBs as the frontrunners.

  • Dick Leach, who coached the USC men’s tennis team to three NCAA titles (1991, 93-94) has passed away. Leach coached 35 All-Americans in his 23-year tenure at USC. He was also an All-American tennis player at USC in 1961. His sons, Rick and Jon, were both All-Americans at USC. Rick was a four-time All-American.

  1. Notre Dame is always tough for USC. Let’s hope ‘SC has their crap together for this game. They certainly need something to fire this team up…whether it’s a Bush push…or another outing like the one Anthony Davis had against the Irish in 1974.

The defensive scheme and coaching is certainly a big issue-and I feel for the players on the defense, listening to all of the noise around them. All they are hearing is that they suck. But, at this point USC is 6-0.

Let’s see how this plays out. I love ‘SC, but it was really hard to watch last week. I have to constantly remind myself that it’s only a game

    1. Caleb Williams isn’t winning the Heisman this year, Alex Grinch and the other two idiots Shaun Nua and Donte Williams will make damn sure of that.

      3. slo pa-troll, you know what stalking and obsessed looks like- 77 consecutive posts mentioning or directed at Gabby.

Obsess: preoccupy or fill the mind of (someone) continually, intrusively, and to a troubling extent.

Stalk: 1. pursue or approach stealthily. 2. harass or persecute (someone) with unwanted and obsessive attention.

Take your own advice, you sound like a hypocrite; “but several people have suggested So Cal seek psychiatric help!! He is in some serious denial.”

    2. Yep, 6-0 and the last three games that should have been no contests were nail biters because the defense can’t stop anyone.

But hey, Coach 162 says the defense is fine, just a bad quarter here and there, no need to worry.

  2. Unless the SC&ND coaches are planning on ‘suiting up’
I don’t believe they will have much impact on the game

Penix, Nix & ‘Celeb’– could be a collections attorneys law firm name
but the head-to-heads will settle that match

  3. USC v Notre Dame once was the pinnacle of college football contests
    Probably not so much anymore
But for afficionados of both schools it is all about the storied history

  4. I still think Del Rio would have built a better staff and would have built both sides of the ball and the culture into something older USC alums would recognize. Air Raid/5 wide can work in the NFL (Pats, Chiefs) but not in college. Some LA history – anyone remember when Carson HS pulled out the 5 wide for the first time in an LA City 4A championship and shocked everyone while destroying Banning?

    1. Have you seen Del Rio’s defense in DC ?

The guy USC should have hired was the dude from Fresno that UDUB hired, but he wasn’t a flashy hire like Coach 162, flashy is all that matters at USC these days, and Carol’s woke agenda

      1. Oh fuck no on Patterson. He’s 63 and his last 10 years were this POS record of 72 – 49, that 59%, why would you want to hire that ?

  5. This SC game is the biggest game in the new ND’s coach’s life
To beat SC in Note Dame Stadium has just got to be done,
and so with Wiley too as last year was no match

  6. I did a google search for my email address and the only thing that came up was this site. So they make your email address public. Try it with double quotes like this
“”joeshmoe@gmail.com”” Use your email site if it isn’t gmail, like hotmail, outlook, or whatever it is. That just make a shitty site even worse.

  7. Scooter,

Cleats for online and wide receivers are important for rain. If you are lineman and it is raining, I hope they would perfer longer cleats for better grip. WR’s can either way, long or normal cleats. If the grass is slippery, then they might have to change. If SC wants to run the ball in the rain, then get the long cleats. It depends on what Williams will do, which will be throwing the ball as usual.

    1. You have field turf cheats and natural grass cleats. Changes to the spike lengths will have no change in performance given varying conditions of the playing surface. You sound like some old man talking 1970s football…..asswipe!

      1. Irrelevant, aka asswipe,

spell check your diaherra of the fingers. You say turf cheats and the grass cleats. As usual, you got to be corrected like the bitch that you are, nd only has grass just like the colisuem. So why would SC take turf cleats? You take grass cleats. For turf surfaces, you just take one pair of shoes for the artifical turf.

  8. Hopefully Caleb will have the best last 6 games that any QB has ever had. He is a competitor and he wants to win another Heisman. But you’re right. This team is not playing well right now and the blame has to go to the coaches. They have plenty of talent.
