USC Notes: Low Profile For Jen Cohen

Where is USC athletic director Jen Cohen?

One of the things I liked about Cohen when she got hired at USC was the way she interacted with the media in Seattle. It’s good because it allows fans to get a sense of what the top person thinks and where the athletic dept. is going.

Has Cohen done anything with the media since her introductory press conference at USC?

There was that disappointing letter she wrote supporting Lincoln Riley’s decision to ban a reporter. That was it.

Is she going to be so supportive with Riley about his coaching staff after the season? That’s one reason it would be good to hear her thoughts. And probably a reason why she hasn’t granted any recent interviews.

  • This is noteworthy because former USC linebacker Dion Bailey does a podcast for USC. As you can see, he’s not a company man, like Cody Kessler, who also does stuff for the athletic dept.

The comment relates to Alex Grinch saying Tuesday USC had trouble with running back Sione Vaki’s wheel routes because they hadn’t seen that on film. But Utah ran the play previous week against Cal.

  1. Gabby fucked with me again. He knew Conway returned kickoffs while at USC. But intentionally said Conway never returned kickoffs knowing it would trigger my paranoia and get under my skin, it worked!

    I immediately went into a manic OCD rage and fired off zinger after zinger after zinger calling out his antics. While he was laughing his ass off. I was a mental mess last night and could not sleep knowing I took Gabby’s bait.

      That’s when I suspected Cowardly Gabby had to be a Bruin Fan because any self repsecting USC Fan from the 1990s would have know about Curtis Conway being such a great weapon for USC’s teams. Sure enough. Cowardly Gabby was using the same obnoxious arrogant talking points back in the 2010s as Charlie Bucket including the tradewark “crotch Kick”. So all this time the Bruin Charlie Bucket through his various sock puppets has been threatening and running off posters on this USC blog.

    2. ‘Ol Mule Shoe’s contract is north of $110 million dollars, she’s in no position to make decisions regarding Lincoln Riley when that kind of money is involved. She may be able to get Riley to make changes to his staff, but aa far as deciding whether Riley goes, she doesn’t have the power to make that decision.

      She wouldn’t be the one paying the buyout, that’s on the donors and USC.

      Their best bet is that he chooses to walk, wanting out of his contract and they’re let off the hook for the remainder of it.

    2. What exactly would you want her to do that would make you think she is acting like the boss? Fire someone? She already did. Hire someone? She already did. Riley makes the calls on coaching staff in the football program. Would he discuss changes with her? He pretty much has to as she is the AD. She is smart enough to keep a low profile while this season is in progress. Be patient, she has this. Do we know if she has feelers out? No. It is too early and we still have staff under contract.

    I am glad you finally have brought up the issues regarding Cohen that I have been doing for the last couple of weeks. Will she get away from the sorority lifestyle and earn her money or will she just be a piece of Folt the Dolt meat? Will she take on Haden’s way and fire Riley on the tarmac if he loses to Cal or will she just go back the Alpha Cai Omega sorority. She has not earned the respect from the fans or media due to her lack of not doing a thing. Fire her ass and bring in Oregeron as the AD. Heads would roll. You are barking up the wrong tree with Cohen doing anything to help SC. She will not make any waves. She will lie on all fours and take her orders from Folt the Dolt.

  10. Jen Cohen has only had the job a few months. Not sure what the fan base expects from her. No way she “tarmacs” Reilly. He has 8 years and 80 million left on his contract. That is not a serious option. She may have a talk with Reilly about replacing her defensive coaching staff but that is probably something Reilly intends to do based on the results over the last two years. Ideally, if Reilly is simply “burned out” on the college game, you have a discussion and an agreement is reached wherein Reilly leaves without receiving the bulk of his contract money. Frankly, I don’t think he is burned out. I think he is merely frustrated and depressed with his team’s inability to perform to the level of expectations.

    1. I think that Riley might actually not want to live the life of a head coach. I really dont think he is “ill” right now. If you are just sick you show up for practice to let the team know you havent departed right after a tough loss.

      There are some kids on this team that deserve alot more. It isnt a lack of heart in most of the kids.

      2. I have to disagree, Riley is living the life he dreamed of. Top school, top money, autonomy, and all the frills like a driver to take him home. Offensively they look like they have not opened much of the playbook. Defense they have the bodies, just not the right guy to run it. The players could play tougher.

    And I have seen difficulty with the wideouts getting separation
    Offensive production has been stalemated the past 2-games
    and Trojans are predictably abandoning SC football in droves
