USC Morning Buzz: Roster Could Turnover Quite A Bit

You would think in Year 3 there would be more roster stability at USC, but there are a group of players who either want to enter the transfer portal or will be told to enter it.

That’s what happens when you go 7-5 after being considered a College Football Playoff contender.

What will happen with players like linebacker Raesjon Davis, Korey Foreman and Ceyair Wright? Does Wright want to leave L.A., which would possibly affect his acting career? Does he even want to keep playing football? Does Foreman need a change of scenery? Yes.

What about Raleek Brown? What was the point of that odd appearance against Washington? He’s had plenty of interest during the season from colleges, according to sources.

Then there are transfer portal additions. Is USC going to make a push for Mississippi State QB Will Rogers? He knows the Air Raid offense as well as anyone in the country. Can Lincoln Riley resist making a move for him?

If I were Riley, I’d have a lot of concerns every time I look at the 2024 schedule.

  • Caleb Williams isn’t even on the board for the Heisman odds from BetOnline. The only three players left are Bo Nix (1/2); Jayden Daniels (8/5) and Michael Penix (18/1).

  1. Riley better get some OL & DL who can actually play. His use of Brown is a mystery, Michigan has a small back who these use all over the place, but they don’t run the moronic Air Raid so that may be the difference. I mean if Riley is such an offensive genius you would think he would have utilized the speed of Brown and Branch much more than he did

  2. Regardingf the Heisman, I’d love to see it go to a Pac-12 player, but Daniels is the most deserving IMO. Along with close to 4,000 passing yards, 40 TD, and 4 INT, he has close to, maybe more than 1,000 rushing yards.

Nix’s numbers are skewed by the fact that so many of his throws – about 1/3 – are at the LOS or behind the LOS. He throws LOTS of check down passes, and the RBs and WRs are able to turn those into big gains.

  3. Scooter,

I have come to the conclusion that Riley will destroy SC football and hold it down as long as he is here. I have no hope with him at the reigns. He could screw up the 1972 Miami Dolphins by just showing up and watching. Thumbs down on him

    1. After only one week away from the pain of watching our games, I have started to once again become…

optimistic. Oh, shit, why do I keep doing this to myself? Am I a masochist?

Good to hear from MG again

  4. Will be interesting to see what we field for the Sun Bowl berth (which I am sure we will get – call it destiny). Caleb won’t play (no reason to risk his NFL entry now), so we get Miller Moss and a potential peek at some of next year’s offense. But with LR’s flaccid approach to getting the team ready to play, and their starting from a general demoralized state with a holy-horror show of a weak out-of-synch arm-tackle defense, we probably will have serious trouble with just about any hungry 6-6 contender. Still beyond belief that with the top-to-bottom roster talent basically superior to every opponent we faced this year, LR sh!t the money bed so very very badly… Now we brace for the severe “sucking sound” of the transfer portal in reverse to see what team remains in 2024….
