There is a chance USC could hire a defensive coordinator at any moment but a few people in the athletic dept. have been a little surprised the process hasn’t moved faster.
Lincoln Riley doesn’t have a lot of defensive contacts, so maybe that is one reason. In the meantime, names just get thrown out (Jim Leonhard, Tony White, Dave Aranda) on social media.
And truthfully, Riley seems to do a lot of things at his own speed. I’m sure if he needed to hire an inside receivers coach, it would have happened a lot faster.
- The NCAA adopted legislation that schools may not arrange for photographs or photograph a recruit or those accompanying the recruit. This also includes video shoots.
If this prevents the endless photographs of recruits in uniforms, college staff members will rejoice. I haven’t ever met a college employee at any school who liked doing these shoots, which required a lot of time and energy for something that has no bearing on the actual college visit and little value.
It just became a social media requirement and schools were expected to do it.
And if he hired a DC immediately it’s “Why the rush, this is an important hire, why not do your due diligence?! That’s what you get when you have no defense contacts”
Scott is “heads I win, tails you lose.”

Lincoln Riley is still in mourning over the loss of his beloved Alex Grinch, so it may take him some time to get moving again.
As for Shaun Nua and the other idiot Donte Williams, why are they still with the team? Don’t give me this bowl game shit either. Those two lame fucks don’t need to be at USC for any reason at all, neither one knows shit about football, the time they have been at USC has only made the players worse.
The quicker USC tosses their know nothing dumb asses off campus, the better!

So when Riley eventually hires some B or C level DC you’ll be happy that he waited past important recruiting periods ?

D.J. Uiagalelei transferring. To USC!? Good, not great stats the last two seasons. Riley has a good relationship with the father.

So far D.J. has been a bust. Not a great QB

Not as bad as this bust:

Not a bust, not great either. Better than Moss or Malachi at this point.

OSU has another QB(he’s a freshmen this year) who would beat out D.J. if he stays at OSU. His name is Aidan Chiles

If you are going to go for a transfer portal QB, there are plenty of them out there better than D.J.

He hasn’t announced yet for the transfer portal, but Maalik Murphy from Texas. 4-star recruit who signed with Texas about the same time Riley was hired. Redshirt sophomore next season.

He was atrocious at Clemson (the start of Dabo’s love affair with the fans going sour was his insistence on keeping him on the field when it was obvious – just like OU and South Carolina learned when bit by the Rattler – he is not a high level college QB).

Players…kids…are what they are, and playing a sport that we choose to follow to one extent or another – so nothing against him (or Rattler – who I saw play in person this year … it was not pretty…kinda like watching Cody Kessler after he was … not well coached! … hold the ball and freeze like the proverbial deer in the headlights). Just not good enough to play for a top level program. Was interesting this year, though, to see that it wasn’t just DJ, since Dabo got sideways with the highly regarded successor and their season did not go swimmingly (although they did win down the stretch … after all, Dabo is a very good coach, so they weren’t going to have a prolonged losing streak).

D.J. Uiagalelei, you never saw a player as big as that pineapplehead 6′ 5″ and 250 lbs. play like such a pussy.
Let her go waste other peoples time somewhere else.

I not big on bringing in another QB but if you are going to do that, there are a lot of really good QB’s in the portal. I wouldn’t waste my time on D.J. He needs to get out of OSU because Aidan Childs is about to beat him out.

Just finished a long article of question-and-answer with SC’s ‘Ol Jen
and she is a polished talker who thinks on her feet and is high energy, so in her “many discussions with Coach Riley” as she puts it,
I would presume she moves at a faster pace than Wiles

Could the reason why he hasn’t hired a defensive coordinator yet is because he’s planning on leaving with Caleb Williams to the NFL?

The only owner dumb enough to take Riley is the idiot who owns the Panthers. And why would CW want Riley as his coach, because he did such a great job with him this year ?

There’s no guarantee that Caleb is leaving.

Of the guys that they are looking at, I haven’t heard any of them say “I’m not interested”. If they just didn’t want the job they would have come out and said it. The fact that it is taking so long just tells me that LR knows that he cannot make a mistake on this one or we’re going to be hindered for another 2-4 years with another Grench.

Or he can’t get anyone to take the job that’s any good.
Remember when coaching at USC was a great gig even for assistants ?

Always been curious who pushes for these NCAA rule changes and why. Who was benefiting from this the most that needed to be stopped?

I’m sure LR has a professional research team helping him find the best possible candidates out there. I want him to find the right guy even if it takes a while. It’s very easy to end up with another Grench and get stuck with him for a couple of more years.

Leave Lincoln Riley alone, let him continue to to things his way at his own pace. He’s not going to make a big splash in anything he does unless you listen to fanboy chatter. If he’s the Riley he’s been over the last five years, then he’ll definitely be fired after next season. His football philosophy won’t be effective in the Big Ten, and his recruiting sucks
