Mario Williams Enters Transfer Portal

USC wide receiver Mario Williams has entered the transfer portal according to Adam Rittenberg of ESPN.

This makes sense for several reasons. Williams had a down season; he was good friends with Caleb Williams; USC isn’t exactly developing receivers or having receivers put up numbers.

Dorian Singer has a similar decision to make. The difference is he has actually put up big numbers at Arizona where Williams really hasn’t put together a full season anywhere.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Singer leaves and tries to find a school where he would be featured more. Remember, he was benched for the UCLA game behind some true freshmen.

    2. Totally agree. There has to be some oversight. At least close the portal until all bowls are over. It’s absurd and actually not safe for teams to have a roster in Flux while preparing to play a game. Hell, same goes for coaches. No coach can change teams until bowls are over. Maybe the week prepping for conference title games but that’s it.

  9. What is happening with Mason Cobb? Is he too slow to drop back into coverage? Should he hit the portal? Seems to me that Eric Genty, Tackett Curtis and Raesjon Davis should be the future of the linebacker position. We need to flip KVA from Notre Dame to USC.

    1. They all have a few things in common. Lack of closing speed in space. and they struggle to get off of blocks which leads them to get turned on running plays. When you get turned, you’re now either chasing the back from behind or you lose the ability to get your hat across the front of the ball carrier.

      There were a lot of missed tackles from the guys you mentioned due to poor technique. When you’re constantly a step late a main rule of tackling goes out the window, the ability to keep yourself between the ball carrier and the end zone.

      Tackett was just not prepared for the speed of the game……He was arm-tackling constantly because he was always a step late. The mental part of processing and reading your keys was taking him too long.
