Chip Kelly Finally Finds A School To Call Plays At

Chip Kelly’s desperate attempt to leave UCLA finally happened as he was hired as offensive coordinator at Ohio State.

At least Kelly left behind the nation’s No. 83-ranked recruiting class.

This is the doing of either the post-modern athletic director, Martin Jarmond, or UCLA chancellor Gene Block, because they should have fired Kelly in November. Super booster Casey Wasserman is also getting criticized for supporting Kelly.

Now what will UCLA do?

The good news for UCLA is Jedd the Fisch took the Washington job. Fisch was sniffing around the job in the fall.

Eric Bieniemy is already getting mentioned. So is D’Anton Lynn. And David Shaw, who like Kelly doesn’t like to recruit. Also getting mentioned is Minnesota coach P.J. Fleck. DeShaun Foster, who just left for the Raiders, will be considered too.

The obvious choice was Jonathan Smith. But he couldn’t wait for UCLA to get its act together so he moved to Michigan State.

Smith’s said USC was his dream job, something to keep in mind in case Lincoln Riley pulls a Chip.

    1. Bruin donors are under the delusion that UCLA is a Top 20 football program. They should have never left the friendly confines of the Pac 12 . The odds of them ever making the playoffs now are 100-1.

  1. I recall years ago owns predicting that with chip at the helm, the brubabies would be contending for a natty by chip’s third year. Now, chip leaves as the definition of mediocrity with a .500 record. ucla has been a .500 team for roughly the last 30 years, I don’t see how anything for them will change.

  2. A separate blog post by the Wolfman for Chip’s departure, after the Village Idiot claimed no one should care if the SUCLA coach is leaving!

She’ll obviously never know what it means to be a Trojan. So sad. That’s why she cries so much.

  3. Would Pete Carroll consider the UCLA job. He wants to work and no NFL team will hire him. He could hire Coach O as D line coach and recruiting coordinator. Keep Ken Norton and name him D coordinator.
Would create quite a buzz and that is what UCLA’s lackluster program needs.

    1. I can’t see that happening, Plow Horse. SUCLA will never make football as much of a priority as he would require. That, along with the changes (portal, NIL) over the past few years is why the Chipster is heading out.

It would be an act of desperation on his part.

      1. Agree So Cal. It would be an act of desperation by Pete and very unlikely. Just throwing it out there. But if I was UCLA, I would go after him and hope that Pete is angry and desperate enough to accept the challenge.

      2. With the impact of NIL and the portal being an HC at a power 5 has lost some luster. In the past, the program would sell itself on its own merits but now you have the NIL aspect, which according to the NCAA can’t be used by a coaching/school position to entice a player. Without Nike money would Oregon have a top 5 class, doubt it.

Looks like the NCAA is finally making a move on some of these schools that have been skirting the rules. The top players are not buying the USC pedigree because the dollar signs have corrupted their judgment. The revamped defensive staff is a step in the right direction to bring back some respectability.

I respect a guy like Zach, he could have followed the money to a different school.

      1. You’re right, PC needs to retire and keep his dignity intact. Perhaps a limited consulting position might help him feel still attached

    1. He left UCLA in shambles. A lot of his good players are gone. His DC is gone and it’s really too late to hire a good coach. If I was UCLA I would promote one off their assistants to interim HC for one year so they have time to hire a really good HC.

    1. I hope you realize that today MG was basically calling you a low-wit loser who gets slapped around by Gabby and needs to up his game. He said it politely so as not to offend you. But as usual, the post flew right over your head.

You then go on to make some lame-ass reply because you misinterpreted what his point was. There’s dumb, dumber, than you!

PS…..was your old man as limited between the ears as you are?

      1. On the Friday at the end of freshmen orientation week (1966) OJ appeared at USC on a recruitment visit. A freshman athlete (who has remained a good friend of mine throughout the years) was asked to share his Marks Tower room with OJ and accompany him to recruiting events. Which he did. OJ flew back to his juco up north on Sunday afternoon. Monday morning, the first day of class, after showering, my friend opened his dresser to find that OJ had helped himself to all his clean underwear. Second semester, when OJ was enrolled at USC and strolling around the athletic department and the broader campus, my friend would occasionally call out, “Hey, OJ! Where’s my underwear?” Which OJ ignored. Years later, when I was a judge, it dawned on me that underwear thievery may be a gateway crime to murder, and I pledged to myself if confronted with a convicted underwear thief, I’d throw the book at him/her/it.

      2. That story gave me a good chuckle…… thanks for sharing.

As a young kid growing up in the 70s, besides a few Raiders, OJ was probably my favorite NFL player. I was too young to experience his days at USC.

      3. Good story Rushmore. How messed up do you have to be to steal another guys underwear. I guess messed up enough to kill your wife and a restaurant employee who was merely returning an item of property to her.

And So Cal, I won’t be praying for O.J. If the justice system was just, he would have been executed by the State in 1995. Pray for Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman. Not that murderous piece of shit.

      4. He was proven not guilty. He might have done it but according to his peers, the proof didn’t meet the level for a conviction. As a lawyer you should respect the process….you promised to promote, uphold, and defend the US Constitution.

Please set forth in detail how my comments violated my obligation to “defend the U.S. Constitution.” And O.J. was not “proven not guilty” you moron. The prosecution, not the Defendant, has the burden of proof. And since we “should respect the process”, does that mean you think the verdict of the first jury in the Rodney King case should have been respected?

How about the Emmett Till case, the one in Mississippi in 1955 where a 14 year old black boy was killed because he whistled at a white woman. 12 white jurors found the prosecution failed to show beyond a reasonable doubt that the two white defendants beat the boy to death and threw him into a river even though multiple witnesses testified to the public beating and abduction of the boy. Should we respect the process?

      6. TRIGGERED!!!!!!!!!!…… YOUR BP IS SPIKING……

Hunchback, where did I say you violated your obligation? I was simply making a blanket statement in general. Why the guilty conscience?. Have you been unethical?

Of course, it’s the prosecutor’s/state’s burden to prove guilt……. I guess there isn’t any reason for the Defense to cross-examine a witness and present their own evidence, there is nothing to “prove”. I see why your law career failed.

You might be book-smart but common sense is lacking!
