USC Coaches Meet The Press

Lincoln Riley said today the QB competition will be open during spring practice.

“We’re going to let those guys duke it out,” Riley said.

Spring practice will begin March 19. The spring game will be April 20 at the Coliseum at 12 p.m. The spring game is the only practice open to the public. It will be on the Pac-12 Network, unfortunately, so the network gets you one last time.

New defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn was asked about UCLA hiring DeShaun Foster.

“I was just as surprised as everybody else, but super happy for DeShaun,” Lynn said.

Lynn said Riley is committed to improving the defense.

“I could just tell that he is determined to change that narrative, and he is determined to play elite defense by any means,” Lynn said. “And I believe him, and I believe in him.”

Defensive line coach Eric Henderson said it was a “no-brainer” to come to USC.

So did linebackers coach Matt Entz, who came from North Dakota State.

“You gotta understand the power of the logo here at USC,” Entz said. “When this program is operating at maximum capacity, it’s good at college football.”

In 1992, Larry Smith said something similar and it was used as a reason to get rid of him.

 “Names and logos don’t mean anything,” Smith said. “You don’t beat someone just because of your name and logo.”

New secondary coach Doug Belk: “We have to change the narrative. We have to set a new standard.”

      2. After the Orange Bowl game jealous Pete fired Naamie Chow and hired his basketball buddies to run the offense and you saw the result in the Rose Bowl on 4th and one. After that every year something would happen to stop us from winning the NC and the team slowly declined until that awful 2009 season when Pete was routed by the Indians 55-21 in the Coliseum.

    2. The emblem means zero. Most of the recruits were too young to remember the Pete Carroll Dynasty. They think of USC as that underachieving team with Suckiffian & Helton as the coach.
