Saturday Notes: The NFL Combine Shows USC Better Than It Performed

When you see some of the attention USC players are getting at the NFL combine, it really makes you think about how Lincoln Riley underachieved last season.

Brenden Rice has gotten a lot of buzz. Marshawn Lloyd has increased his stock. So has Calen Bullock. Oh, and then there is someone named Caleb Williams.

  • Lloyd ran a 4.46 40-yard dash at the NFL combine today. That’s considered a good time for the 220-pound back and will help him.

Isaac Guerendo of Louisville ran the fastest time for running backs at 4.33. Remember him? He rushed for 161 yards in the Holiday Bowl. Blake Corum of Michigan only ran a 4.53 but did much better in the other drills.

  • Bullock ran a 4.48 at the combine and has helped himself all week. He measured at 6-2. USC listed him at 6-3, which means the Trojan tradition of adding an inch to roster heights continues.
  • Why is the USC-Washington game on CBS today? Because the network wanted a Bronny James game before the season when USC was marketable.
  • The USC women’s basketball team clinched the No. 2 seed for the Pac-12 Tournament with a victory over Arizona State.

  1. The television networks gambled with an SC-Wash dog of a game (today) that looked promising before the season
But t.v. always wins out and is the reason college football will not die with SC and other “Big-10ers” getting a sweetheart deal covering the next 10-years

  2. When Wolf writes, always look for the ‘dig,’ and today as most days he picks on Wiley and how SC gives an extra inch to its ballplayers (as if no other school does the same)

    1. In parts of 5 years in the Pac-12, ACC and Big-12 he accumulaed nearly 12,000 yards passing. That has to be right up there with the all-timers

      1. The trojans must upset UA in Galen or the Indians have to lose to the Buffs Sunday and Cal next week for SC to tie for 10th… but then they get in the upper bracket with Arizona.

  3. I stand corrected about Slovis holding any records. He would be about #60 in career passing yards, but he was a nice kid and he might catch on in the NFL as a back-up

  4. Wolfie, once again you trash the USC coach. Does this practice give you an ego lift? I remember how you used to trash Pete Carroll and call him names like Ceasar. You really need therapy Scotty. There is hope for you if you reach out.
