USC Morning Buzz: A Perfect Job For Pete Carroll

I keep hearing that Pete Carroll is having a tough time coming to terms with the fact no NFL teams offered him a job after his dismissal by the Seattle Seahawks.

Maybe USC can hire Carroll as a consultant. He could offer some defensive pointers to D’Anton Lynn and help Lincoln Riley improve his people skills. Get him to agree to a couple public appearances and you would re-energize the fan base.

See how much Carroll can contribute? It’s a no-brainer for USC. Jen Cohen spent all those years in Seattle with Carroll, so she should arrange a meeting as soon as possible.

  • Former USC QB Kedon Slovis ran the 40-yard dash in 4.55 seconds at the NFL Combine. That’s faster than Puka Nacua ran last year (4.57).
  • I can guarantee every time I hear a reference to Michigan defensive coordinator Wink Martindale this season, I will think of the game-show host.
  • USC baseball plays at Cal State Fullerton tonight at 6. The drive from the USC campus will be shorter than going to a Trojans home game in Irvine.
  • Former USC offensive tackle Chad Wheeler was sentenced last week to 81 months in Washington state prison following his November conviction for first-and-second-degree domestic violence assault.

Per USA Today, “Wheeler, 30, had strangled his girlfriend unconscious, broke her arm and left her for dead then as blood poured from her nose and mouth and into her stomach, according to prosecutors.”

Wheeler, who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, was released by the Seattle Seahawks after his arrest in January, 2021, and has not played in the NFL since the incident. He played 32 career games with the New York Giants and Seahawks with a total of 19 starts.

      2. No way in hell would the insecure Lincoln Riley want a National Championship/ Super Bowl coach around his program. Riley will never match Carroll’s success, because he doesn’t understand physical football 🏈.

Most of us don’t hate Biden. He was just unfit for the job. But they hate Trump more than they love the country.

    1. Wheeler made nice money, enough to retire on for most guys, and he throws it all away by not taking his meds knowing violent tendencies can then emerge ‘out of his control’

And I recall a handsome young Carrot who is still what they say “Nice looking for 70,” which is short for “Not what he used to be”. Thank the Lord that didn’t happen to us!

  1. Michael,

I went by St. Monica’s on Sunday. I had wanted to go in the church but it was closed until 5:30 PM Mass. Beautiful school. I have only been once to Mass there and that was a long time ago. Did you every go to the Fox Inn on Wilshire and i think 26th Street, across the street from the old Home Savings bank? I used to go there when my friend lived in Santa Monica.

    1. Yep. The Fox Inn.The Broken Drum [“you can’t beat it”], The Dog House, The Pie Shop and, of course, Zucky’s [sp?]. I used to box guys in Lincoln Park on the grass in front of the rose bushes. God, I loved that area so much!

    2. It was the ‘Fox and Hounds’ night club – almost directly across the street was ‘The Hatch’ where Glen Campbell began his career then there was ‘The Tinder Box’ for a cigar.

  2. Since we are recalling the “old days,” Michael and PT, my wife and I lived in Santa Monica from 1974 to 1994 and we went to St. Monica’s Church regularly with Monsignor (spelling?) Torgeson, and then the Great 1994 Northridge-Santa Monica Earthquake left us homeless and scattered away from that 100-year old Church that was still standing

    1. I go all the way back to Monsignor O’Flarity [sp?] —he was good buddies with John F. Kennedy. He started driving me back home from Brotherhood USA camp in Riverside and, when we began talking about Kennedy, he started to cry….and asked me if I could drive the rest of the way home. [Speaking of homes, so sorry to hear about what happened to yours, John]…

Were you old enough to drive? I bet you weren’t. Oh well. Did you play Danny Boy on the way home for Fr. O’Flarity? I can see Bing Crosby playing that role or Ward Bond, who played a priest in the Quiet Man. Wow.
