USC Notes: Some Coaches Lucky Enough To Stay In So Cal

Tim Drevno, who was fired yesterday as UCLA offensive line coach, had a pretty good run in Southern California the past decade.

And when I say pretty good run, I mean he got to live here and coach. He was at USC in 2014; went to Michigan from 2015-17; returned to USC from 2018-20 and then was at UCLA from 2021-23. And he still has two more years on his contract!

When he was at USC, the football coaches used to talk about the day when he got upset at a practice with the way a staff member had prepared things for some drills. After he yelled at the staffer, he later tried to explain his actions.

“It’s OK,” the staffer said, “I’ve been yelled at by better coaches.”

  1. If the SC Staffer said that about Drevno no wonder Wolf quoted him

So Dartmouth basketballers want to be unionized; they probably figure there is more money in it for them if they do so

    1. John –The way it’s always put to me [usually for being too loud at a gallery or bookstore] is, “would you mind leaving?” I always have the same reply [after I look the place up & down]: “Mind leaving here? No, I wouldn’t mind.”

  2. Both Drevno and John Baxter coached ignominiously at Michigan after 1st stints at USC. Then coaching under Helton tainted whatever reputations that they had left.
