Saturday Buzz: USC Beats UCLA In Dramatic Fashion

USC reached the final of the Pac-12 Tournament after an emotional 80-70 double OT victory over archrival UCLA on Friday night in Las Vegas.

The Trojans play Stanford on Sunday at 2 p.m. on, wait for it, . . . ESPN!

USC is 25-5 overall, which is the most wins since going 26-4 in 1994-95.

This is how things can go in women’s basketball: USC guards JuJu Watkins (33 points) and McKenzie Forbes (20 points) were a combined 14 for 47 from the field. And USC still won.

That’s because UCLA guard Londynn Jones and forward Angela Dugalic were 4 for 24.

Those shooting stats were a reason USC had 56 rebounds and UCLA 54.

USC shot 31.5 percent while UCLA shot 31.6 percent. These are two of the nation’s top teams and the shooting was borderline atrocious.

Here’s a stat: USC had lost all four previous meetings with UCLA at the Pac-12 Tournament (2022, 2020, 2010, 2008). Can USC upset Stanford? Watkins scored 51 against the Cardinal in the teams’ first meeting in Palo Alto, which was a Trojans’ victory.

  • Meanwhile, USC baseball is now 3-10 overall after a 16-9 loss to Arizona at Not-So-Great Park in Irvine. The Trojans actually 12-0 after 3.5 innings.

    Juju turned her ankle in the first minute of the game and in the 1st overtime had to be carried off the floor, but both times she returned quickly.

    SC was down 4-points in the final regulation minute when Juju made a free throw, missed the second, but SC got the rebound and then a 3-pointer to tie the game

    Oh, and after SC had lost 9 in a row to sucla thru the years the Trojans beat them twice this season

      4. MG, this ‘Are-Zona’ game is a litmus test for our Trojans versus one of the nation’s top teams to figure-out how to beat ‘rabid’ Wildcats,

        what with this contest tonight being a throw-away game to see where Troy stands before Pac-12 Tournament when SC would have to go through those Wildcats again anyway

    3. Women’s basketball is not men’s basketball– in a game that favors male aggresiveness over woman’s only because of body builds and different attitudes. We are accustomed to speed-and-strength games in which men excel,

      but the ‘female’ can shoot as well as the ‘male’ and they definitely play a more 5-“man” team-game than the mens’ one-on-one nonsense

      5. The american government is corrupt(as well as many of the city and state governments). The La Hiena victims lost everything and(as I understand it) the government gave each family $700. According to the New York Post, NYC is giving out debit cards of $10,000 each to unvetted illegals. I don’t think that they even know if they are illegals or who they are. They know nothing about these illegals who are roaming the country. Eric Adams(the mayor) says that’s not true. I’ve had other sources tell me that it is true. If I have my choice to believe believing Eric Adams and the NY Post, I’ll take the NY Post 6 days a week and twice on sunday.

Grabbyy —you need to do some medical research —sometimes a speech impediment can cause you to meet with the Attorney General and instruct him to harass churchgoers on the basis of their being ‘domestic terrorists’ — severe cases of speech impediment sometimes lead to authorizing flights of illegals from Mexico into Montana on the public dime & refusing to answer Freedom of Information requests regarding statutory authority for doing so….

  8. Van Jones….”there will be blood in the streets”. Well, there should have been blood in the streets in the summer of 2020. If that’s what it takes to stop the riots, then that’s what it takes. Otherwise, you have mob rule. When they did nothing in 2020 they encouraged the young whackos that they could get away with that kind of stuff. As a result, it will happen again and again. When Van Jones said “there will be blood in the streets”, he did much more to encourage an insurrection against the USA than Trump ever did by what he said on January 6.

    I pick on ‘Stump and Bitin’ equally because it is the “American way” and I say Biden’s speech impediment is often the fodder of uncomplimentary opposition advertisements showing Biden speech fumbling. That was all, we don’t dare go into ‘opposing’ policies around this blog, it is blog suicide

The bad actors sense weakness in the US and are boldly advancing in Central and South America, Asia, the Middle East and Eastern Europe. Under his watch the Cartels, North Korea, Red China, Russia and Iran have been empowered.

      Once upon a time when a president was incapable of leading, the adults in the room told him it was time to go… 50 years ago. Now you Democrats avert your eyes from the spectacle of a clearly incapacitated president unable to remember what he had for breakfast much less lead the a nation, as a Special Prosecutor determined. Biden should be enjoying his ill-gotten gains in retirement, looking for sand dollars and driftwood at his beach house.

        Blood in the streets is inevitable. Even if the government started to hand out benefits that make every illegal rich and that no citizen would ever think of getting from the government(all at the average citizens expense) I would still expect the blood to flow.
