USC Notes: Not Crazy About This Position Switch

I’m not crazy about USC moving Jonah Monheim from left tackle to center.

Here’s why: USC is likely to have a first-year starter at quarterback (Miller Moss), so it’s vital to have an experienced left tackle. Monheim started last season at left tackle and the season before at right tackle.

Monheim sees his NFL future as an interior lineman, apparently, so that’s one reason for the move. But is it best for the team? Everyone will hype up whoever plays left tackle in the spring, but they won’t have Monheim’s experience.

  • It’s a good thing no one cares about lacrosse at USC. The Trojans led Darmouth, 9-3, on Monday and then gave up eight straight goals and 14 of the next 17 to lose, 17-12.

  1. They must think that they have someone to take over the tackle spot and center is a weak position.

    How about looking for a center in the portal ?

    In the end, does it really matter ? All the OL does is pack peddle, if Moss or the running QB can get the ball away quickly, it won’t matter.

    2. That was the problem last year. Caleb hung onto the ball forever. That puts a huge burdern on the O-Linemen. They are exhausted by the 3rd quarter. That’s why he was sacked 33 times last year. It wasn’t the O-Linemen. Nix was sacked 5 times in 2023. Penix 10 times. They got rid of the ball fast. Caleb has been sacked 83 times in 2 1/2 years as a starter
