A Reason For SMU Fans To Be Worried

Andy Enfield has asked his coaching staff to join him at SMU.

If I was an SMU fan, I wouldn’t take that as a positive. One of the problems since Jason Hart left USC was the lack of a strong assistant on the staff who could stand up to Enfield and also recruit.

A problem for Enfield has been his lack of contacts and refusal to hire strong assistants. He only hired Hart because Pat Haden told him to after Mike Hopkins said in his USC interview he would bring Hart and Tony Bland with him if he were hired.

  • The word around USC on Wednesday was SMU offered Enfield a six-year deal worth around $30 million.

  1. Thanks Enfield. Now Scott who is the next head coach? Oh that is right you’re outside USC. Now the rest of the kooks on this site start talking about politics.

      1. Half the people are worse off than in 2020, huh, so no wonder they take it out on the road with their overly aggressive, dangerous driving

  2. Wolfie claims he heard about Dandy Andy’s SMU offer because of  “The word around USC,” and you’re gonna tell me Scott doesn’t have contacts at the school?

  3. College coaches today are way over paid at the major schools including Andy Enfield, The guy recruited better than most at USC, but definitely did not develop the talent he had. Andy, should move into a another career he just does not have the talent to lead, motivate, and teach the fundamentals of the game. Let’s hope he takes all his assistants with him. What’s unbelievable is that an average coach can get a new job after a very poor season despite having talent, and still make 5 million a year. To me Enfield should be embarrassed he never filled up the Galen Center during his tenure, and even more the woman’s team is beginning to do just that in just 3 seasons under Gottlieb.

USC Basketball can go to the highest level if they hire the right person. Yes, the program is better but now we need the right guy to take us to or close to the top. My thinking is we should hire the coach from Creighton who has done a great job there after replacing a legend in Dana Altman who is now at Oregon. Please USC don’t hire a coach who had just 1 wonderful miracle season hire a guy that has had winning seasons, and taken teams to the NCAA tournament on a consistent basis.

  4. Scott said Enfield makes $4.5 million at USC and this SMU offer is not that much more at $5 million a year. So Enfield really wants out of USC, which I don’t get. There’s no way that I see that SMU is a better job.
