USC Morning Buzz: Don’t Expect To See Lane Kiffin At Coliseum

If it seemed like the USC-Mississippi games in 2025 and 2026 were too good to be true, they probably were.

“There are some matchups we have on the books that may not be around in the future,” Mississippi athletic director Keith Carter told Rivals. “We may have some announcements coming shortly.”

This series has probably been on life support ever since USC moved to the Big Ten and the SEC added Oklahoma and Texas.

It’s a shame because going to Oxford, Miss., for a road trip would be a highlight for fans. And if he sticks around at Mississippi, there’s the Lane Kiffin angle. His daughter is also enrolling at USC this fall.

If the games get dropped, the non-conference schedule will take a big hit. In 2025, USC will play Georgia Southern, Notre Dame and a likely cupcake to replace Mississippi.

  • SMU could announce the hiring of Andy Enfield as soon as today. Enfield’s buyout decreased to $2 million today.

USC’s expected to begin the coaching search in earnest today.

  • I can’t believe USC assistant coach Beth Burns didn’t notice the 3-point lines were not uniform in Portland. The Trojans play UConn today at 6 p.m. PT at ESPN.

  1. SC v Connecticut with the later going for 12 national titles and its coach Geno ‘Something’ saying “I wish both teams could win”

      2. I did, they’re both pricks. Empty the benches, hold the ball, do anything to keep the score down in games like this, they don’t. Better yet, schedule games against teams with a pulse.

  2. And thank the Lord, Allah, Buddha, Krishna or whomever you like for SMU taking that complete fucking fraud Andy Enfield off of USC’s hands.

  3. “We got this freshman-veteran vibe going,” says JuJu about a teammate, which got a chuckle and showed she’s smart with a soft sense-of-humor– nice girl, and boy do we ‘need’ a few heros and heroines in the ‘sports-side’ part of our personalities

Boo-hoo, Lane Kiffin isn’t coming to see SC, which was the only draw for the Mississippi game and not exactly a riveting one

  4. An SEC school avoiding USC means USC is back in their heads rent free. My all-time favorite timeline: 1. USC and Texas A&M schedule a Home & Home Series in 2009 for 2015 & 2016.

    2. September 2011, Texas A&M announces they will be joining the SEC effective July 2012.

    3. One minute after finding out, I said to myself “There goes the Texas A&M Series”)

    4. May 2013 – Texas A&M cancels the USC Home & Home series, their AD saying “”Having switched from the Big 12 to the SEC, we’ve had to scrub our whole schedule — throw it almost out,” Hyman said. “Going forward, we’ve had conversations with people, but we really can’t be contractually (obligated) until THE CONFERENCE SAYS you’ve got the green light.”

    5. Ultimately, Texas A&M replaces Pac 12 USC in 2015 and 2016 with…….Pac 12 Arizona State and Pac 12 UCLA.

    The SEC Fraud lives on.

With the team and QB (Dart) Ole Miss has this year, Kiffin would love to play USC this year. I hope this game remains on the schedules.

  5. If anyone is wondering why I refuse to acknowledge my past identity and currently use other names, the answer is simple. It’s because I’m a coward.

  7. I note that JuJu and the SC girls were wearing ‘Southern Cal’ on their uniforms in some games which I guess means that is another name for SC they find acceptable despite some old-timers abhoring the term. With the college sports going national it is a way of distinguishing SC from the other SC (South Carolina)
