I’m told that in post-scrimmage conversations, USC’s coaching staff would like to add 2 defensive tackles; 1-2 offensive linemen; a wide receiver and perhaps even a tight end, if a suitable candidate is available.
There even some consideration to adding another linebacker but that was a backburner issue.
This certainly sounds like more activity than was projected about 4-5 weeks ago by Lincoln Riley. It’s also dependent on how many good players are actually available.
Here’s the transfer activity from the past couple days:
- Wide receiver Kyle Ford, who left USC for UCLA last year, is expected to return to the Trojans.
- Former Arizona offensive lineman Joe Borjon took an official visit to USC over the weekend. Borjon played in six games and made three starts for the Wildcats last season.
- USC offensive lineman Cooper Lovelace has entered the transfer portal. Lovelace was the backup center in Saturday’s scrimmage. Remember he was best known for being able to do the splits. Some of you might have even gotten excited about that.
- Forward Brody Kozlowski, who signed with USC under Andy Enfield, has committed to BYU.
- USC women’s basketball player Taylor Bigby has committed to TCU.
- UCLA defensive tackle Jay Toia, formerly of USC, has decided to stay with the Bruins after deciding to entire the transfer portal. Looks like UCLA stepped up with some NIL money.
- Here are Mel Kiper’s final QB rankings before the NFL Draft:
1. Caleb Williams, USC 2. Jayden Daniels, LSU 3. Drake Maye, North Carolina 4. J.J. McCarthy, Michigan 5. Michael Penix Jr., Washington 6. Bo Nix, Oregon

I wouldn’t draft Williams ( head case ) Daniels ( not that good ) or Penix ( weird throwing motion )

BK; Do you draft Drake Maye? Scouts complain that he misses too many open receivers. J.J. McCarthy seems like an average quarterback. I can’t see drafting Bo Nix with a top 10 pick. Not an easy selection. No wonder the Patriots want to trade the No. 3 pick.

I think a lot of QB’s get over hyped and really aren’t very good, just look at the guy the Jets just traded, Mac Jones, the list is endless.
There’s probably a QB that’ll get drafted in the later rounds that will be better than the 6 listed, the 49ers took a guy with the last pick and he’s their starter, you just never know.

Karma — I think I may have just hit on a Big Idea: Caleb will be a different player under a better coach — Caleb needs a coach who tells him what’s what [and sits him when he acts like a dumbfuck]. Riley is smart, he knows football — but he’s weak. He projects the qualities of a weak man every time he’s in public [compare the way he gushes like a girl with Folt & the mean, chickenshit way he treats newbies at pressers]. After 2 years with him, Caleb realized how weak Riley was and started to walk all over him. That won’t happen with a strong head coach…..

Do you think that the Bears coach is better than Riley ?
Williams comes off as a brat, moody, and self absorbed and in the NFL, his teammates will throw him under the bus in a heartbeat .
He may have a great career but I’m not betting on it.

Celeb Number-1? Even if I am a billionaire do I throw half-a-billion at this guy?– The Oregon kid just seems more like a conventional quarterback, the safe bet

And face it, that spectacular running stuff ‘Celeb’ did in ’22 wasn’t replicated in ’23, so-

Give Caleb a year in the pros and he won’t look much like he did at USC. To much speed everywhere in the pros, he will learn, probably the hard way. If he has a good coach he can be a great one.

If he learns “the hard way” he may end up like Robert Griffin 3rd — who, btw, was smarter and faster than Caleb…..
