USC Notes: Who Goofed We Think We Know

Bronny James was listed at 6-4 by USC.

But his measurements for the NBA Draft Combine show he is 6-1.5, without shoes.

Now this is where I would ordinarily chastise USC for being off on someone’s height/weight, which has been a problem with football for decades.

However, I’m going to cut USC some slack here. Why? Because Sierra Canyon listed Bronny as 6-4 his senior season.

Would you want to deal with the backlash — especially from LeBron’s camp — by telling people Bronny was 2.5 inches shorter than Sierra Canyon reported? That’s a headache no one wanted.

You can trace a lot of issues back to Sierra Canyon, such as going along with the refusal to have Bronny talk to the media, even though other high-profile players did speak to the media.

Maybe USC should have told everyone that Bronny would have to be like every other player and speak to the media before he came to college. Yeah, right.

UPDATED: Isaiah Collier was listed at 6-5 by USC but measured 6-2.5 But it’s the same thing, Collier was listed at 6-5 by his high school! Is USC going to humilate the No. 1 player in the nation as soon as he shows up? Nope.

  • Former Texas cornerback Terrance Brooks committed to Illinois. He had been scheduled to visit USC.
  • USC still required an I.D. to enter campus today and did bag inspections. But metal detectors are being dismantled.
  • USC and UConn have signed a deal for a two-year basketball series. The first game will be Dec. 21 at UConn. The second game will be at USC in 2025-26.
