USC Notes: Fans And Oddsmakers Disagree

There is a complete difference of opinion about USC between the fans who expect a trip to the expanded College Football Playoff and the oddsmakers, who set the regular-season over/under at 7.5.

Who is going to be right?

If USC doesn’t win 10 games, Lincoln Riley is going to be under a lot of pressure again. But with the schedule, it might not be possible. Could be a stressful season for Jen Cohen.

  • Former Colorado offensive tackle Isaiah Jatta, who was being recruited by USC, committed to BYU.
  • Kevin Patton, a 6-8 freshman at the University of San Diego, is transferring to USC. He averaged 9.8 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists this season.
  • Brandon Sosna was named senior vice president of football operations for the Washington Commanders. He will handle analytics, health and performance and football administration for the Commanders.

It’s worth noting that he is not involved in deciding what players to draft, which some USC fans erroneously think he did in Detroit.

  • Eric Musselman is selling his house in Fayetteville, Ark., for $3,750,000. The stately, five-bedroom, 5.5-bath mansion is 8,000 square feet on nearly an acre of property.
  • Musselman was recruiting at the NIKE EYBL Tournament last weekend in Indianapolis.

  1. As we all know, the oddsmakers do not make predictions. There only job is to pick a number that will result in half of the public on one side, and half betting on the other side.

    1. Thanks, Mike. I predict the Trojans will prove the oddsmakers wrong & win seven and three quarters games…..

      2. Answer: I’d like to be a smartass and say I’ve already bet my home on USC beating LSU, Michigan, Penn State, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Rutgers, Washington and UCLA [and “Somebody Else”] …..but….. no, I would not bet the house on a 9 win season….

  2. A nearly $4-million home in Arkansas would probably be in the $10-million range in some parts of Los Angeles, or Muzzle might have gotten this treatment from realtors, “So you have $4-million available, huh, well in some parts of L.A. that might buy you only the driveway’

      1. So Cohen admitting he stole $60k has no impact? What are we all missing here?

Best move – post date setting for the two debates – was Trump countering Biden’s demands of a ‘sealed’ debate hall and no ‘hot microphone’ to immediately counter any remark that this dottering idiot take a drug test to see what they dosed him with as they did at his SOU this past January.

      2. Alv — If Biden does drug test the results will get him busted by his own DEA…..

      3. The Biden DOJ does not want the trial televised. Same way they’re keeping the American public from hearing the Hur interviews!

I remember when Biden & team said they were going to bring integrity & transparency back to the White House! Anyone with a triple digit IQ knew he was lying.

      4. So Cal —one of my neighbors actually said “I’m voting for Biden again—he’s brought morality back to the White House.”

      5. I would have made sure he realized that is a vote for Heels Up Kamala and if he wants to talk morality… LOL!

Also would have reminded him about Joe’s denial of his granddaughter and the Christmas stocking stunt. Then there’s lying about where his son died, his uncle being eaten by cannibals, claims that he was arrested not once, but twice, while fighting for colored people. These aren’t little lies about how he supported or didn’t support some meaningless bill. These are lies that truly speak to his lack of morals & character.

As you & I have said, this isn’t about who’s a better person. They’re both losers. This is about what’s best for the country and the world!!

      6. So Cal — Agree with everything except Trump being a loser. He’s imperfect, he’s done & said stuff I don’t like —-but—- he’s stood up to more crap than anybody who’s ever ran for office in his attempt to drain the swamp & keep America out of war ….and he’s stayed the course….. which gives him a pretty high ranking in American history.

      8. Well, yeah, jackass would have been more appropriate. Because while I often don’t approve of his delivery, I almost always agree with his intentions. If he were a “loser”, I couldn’t say that.

But even that I mean with the utmost appreciation & respect. Not unlike anyone with a brother will attest. I can call my brother every name in the book. But someone else does that and it’s on like donkey kong! 😛

There was a great scene like that in “A Guy Named Joe”. Nails Kilpatrick is ripping his squadron apart, pretty much referring to them as a bunch of slackers. A minute or two later, some other unit commander says something derogatory about them and Nails is ready to back up his boys to the hilt!! LOL

      11. Well, of course! How many movies have a character who’s a former USC football player singing Fight On in a bar, (only to be rudely interrupted by Van Johnson’s incredibly nice gesture)?! Something either one of us would have done, even without a script! 😉

    2. You were right Michael. The corrupt judge wouldn’t allow Costello to tell his story – sustaining virtually every objection and telling him he needs to answer “yes” or “no” without giving him the ability to explain his answer. And how about dismissing the jury for one week. I would be irate if I was the defense attorney. The judge wants the jurors memories to fade before the listen to closing arguments and deliberate.

      1. As we both fully understand, the Judge is an operative —he’s behaving as a dem functionary not a judicial officer. The defense should have forced instructions and argument as soon as the prosecution rested — instead, they gave the corrupt judge an opening to drag things out and, of course, he took it.

It’s now up to the defense to rekindle recollections of Stormy’s and Cohen’s testimony in argument.

  4. Oddsmakers have to be realistic when setting odds or a point spread on a game since they desire to have a 50-50 betting ratio

  5. Trust me, if USC wins 10 games, Wolf will find other things to complain about the team and Riley. It must be exhausting, and depressing, to look at the world through this prism.

  6. I don’t preduct jury verdicts- the only time I can recall that any juror was nodding his head in apparent agreement were 2 engineers who both voted against me

Right, ‘Cohen’s admitted lying looks good for Stump but there is other evidence that doesn’t need ‘Cogent’s helping hand. Still, ‘probable cause’ is hard to prove and 1 in 12 New Yorkers is ‘certified’ nuts

All this as the world laughs at the silly Americans fretting over the trivial again

    Like

    1. The standard is proof “beyond a reasonable doubt” to the unanimous satisfaction of the jury, not “probable cause.”

There is nothing silly about protecting a defendant from a fatally vague charge [“fraud combined with intent to commit SOME OTHER crime”]. The world does not laugh at what New York is doing…. it’s appalled.

      1. There’s got to be at least one intelligent, reasonable and sane person on that jury. Someone who isn’t so stupid as to vote guilty just because they dislike him.

        Liked by 1 person

      2. So Cal —IF there’s only one or two for Not Guilty after the first count, Merchan will keep sending them back to deliberate again & again until those one or two have been browbeaten into Guilty votes….
