USC Notes: Rutgers Game Moves To Friday Night

The Big Ten is moving the USC-Rutgers game to a Friday night (Oct. 25).

A Pac-12-type move!

Even worse it will kick off at 8 p.m. The game was supposed to be Oct. 26. It will be on Fox Network. Even worse, it will follow Game 1 of the World Series. So that means no way the start of the game is on Fox, right? What’s the backup channel?

USC is now forced to switch its Parents Weekend to the Wisconsin game on Sept. 28.

  • USC has received a commitment from nose tackle Gavin Meyer, who played at Wyoming the past four seasons. Meyer had 66 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and 4 sacks the past 2 seasons. Does this solve any defensive line woes?

  1. We needed Harmon but Oregon outbid us. There is a weak spot in the middle of the defense. Meyer will give us some depth but we are still soft in the middle of the d line.

  2. As suspected none of the networks wanted that SC-Rutgers game

SC gets a recruit who had 2 1/2 tackles per game the past 2-years, so apparently SC thought that was pretty good

  3. another large body on the ‘D’ line makes them 2 deep ,and less injury prone due to fatigue…a good thing in most football oriented minds

  4. Thanks for the advance warning. Will definitely be selling my tickets for the Rutgers game.

Unreal, I thought we would avoid stupid weeknight games.

I bet Michigan, OSU and Penn State will not have Friday evening games.

      1. Not pouting, just expressing my disappointment with the Networks, USC and our new conference, the B10.

I would have bet the farm that this game would be 5pm start but obviously I was wrong.

USC has obviously lost its clout unlike Michigan, tOSU and Penn State.

  5. Have to admit Scott’s right about the 11:00 pm EST kickoff which matters because USC opponent Rutgers is the sole Div 1 program within 50+ miles of NYC. Then again if the NYY fail to make it to ‘the Fall Classic’ maybe they’ll ‘deign’ to take a view and root against ‘ANYTHING’ from LA.

  6. Fun !

Friday night traffic to get to the game, it will be over at 11:30+, if you live in South Orange County you’ll be home around 1:30am !!!

    1. I love in mid orange county does that count. People are going to leave early. I don’t see too many staying until the end when USC puts 50 on Rutgers

    1. Yeah, not as if Kamala called Joe a racist sack of shit during the debates, then giggled like a schoolgirl when he asked her to be his running mate. (Completely oblivious to the fact she only had two qualifications for being asked.)

  8. “You’re only as good as your last game” may hold true in football with its limited number of games, whereas in basketball’s ’82’ and baseball’s ‘162’ there are a lot of games a player can mess up in and not be noticed

  9. Imagining my facing major league pitching I might hit .050 with a lucky swing, so guys hitting .200 look good-enough to me

  10. That was a stunner the ‘world-champs’ getting beat, they look like world-beaters when taking on the Lakers

  11. But it did take a Herculean effort to overtake Denver’s 20-point lead in the second half, wondering what is going through Denvers’ minds as they hopelessly watch their sure-win game turn to losing

  12. So SC-Rutgers gets moved around a bit, welcome to trying to assemble 18 colleges into a ‘schedule’

  13. A ‘Big-10′ or ’18’ ad reads “The Big-10 regularly dominates college football, an essential aspect of student life”– Sounds like the midwest kids take their sports more seriously than here in L.A.
