USC Morning Buzz: A Bold Claim With Top Recruit

The recruitment of five-star QB Julian Lewis, who is committed to USC, has become an obsession for recruiting analysts and some fans.

Josh Newberg of On3 is making a bold prediction with Lewis, claiming USC “might” be the No. 3 choice now for Lewis after he visited Colorado. Not even No. 2? We’ll see.

  1. As I watched the video Scott supplied [with reference to the amount of attention required by & for players to sign with a particular school], I realized how out of whack college football is getting.

      1. What would Marv do to Rachel [frizzy-haired, chinless man dressed as female admiral] Levine?

  2. Part of the problem with SC is that it is in the heart of a major city, Los Angeles, whereas many of the other U.S. schools are in quaint college towns where the football team is the primary attraction

  3. As the SC (South Carolina) president poignantly pointed out, “This NIL situation is not sustainable,” but he had no answers for how NIL might be regulated

    1. Proposal:

USC Alumni hire actor to pose as President of NCAA……he gathers players and administration into auditorium…. & tells players they have no individual names or images independent of their university— & tells university it has no name or image independent of its players….

  4. And of course the ‘Portal’ system is apparently here to stay but that is largely influenced by NIL considerations

  6. Today football youths; mantra is as the song goes, “Money can’t buy everything it’s true, but what it don’t buy I can’t use”

  7. Not sure if anyone completely saw this college football wreck coming but the infusion of money into the situation was bound to cause chaos

  8. Of course the big boys like Ohio St, Georgia and Alabama are not complaining much because they have their quality ‘brands’ to attract the kids

  9. Funny how most fans accepted coaches raking in millions for doing jobs while mostly adding little incremental value for decades……but have a player get only a small portion of the value he brings to the school and everything is out of control.

    1. Not at all —the signings and re-signings and demands for more $$$ make all Americans proud….

    2. At Nebraska the public announcer starts with “Let’s say a prayer for these football players who sacrifice a great deal for our entertainment,” Football is entertainment and it can be argued that it “adds little incremenal value”

  10. If Juju Lewis goes to Colorado he is not as bright as advertised. There is no stability in that program. Colorado can’t recruit or retain offensive lineman. Quarterbacks need offensive lineman.

    1. True….but the weird reverberations of NIL continue to grow…. independent of what happens with Juju…..

  11. Jayden Maiava may be a real gem. He has size, speed, and arm strength with I believe 3 years of eligibility. If he works out Lewis is not loss. Lewis expects to start as a freshman and that does not happen. We then develop Ryder Lyons, our tight ends brother, from the 2026 class to take over for Maiava.

  12. Either any potential wants to ‘fight on for ‘ol SC’ or they don’t…bidding wars for a buncha’ MAYBES is insane. Good riddance and whatever floats your boat dude.
