USC Morning Buzz: Now Lane Kiffin’s Turn To Let Paul Finebaum Have It

Paul Finebaum has been criticizing Lincoln Riley but he took some heat from Lane Kiffin at SEC Media Days.

Kiffin tried to blame Finebaum for getting fired at USC.

“You really did. Because it is a true story the athletic director and president were on that trip (to Arizona State). We were playing that night and you were on College GameDay and you had to make your big splash. They were watching it because I know the other person in the room that was watching it with them. And you said what a joke I was, I’m the Miley Cyrus of college football coaching and I should be fired. They looked at each other and later that night, I was fired.

“But hey, look what happened. I would never gotten to work for Coach Saban. All these other things wouldn’t have happened. So I appreciate you for helping me getting fired.”

Finebaum responded, “Look at Miley Cyrus, she’s had a nice comeback.”

“So you were wrong with that,” Kiffin said. “Really, I don’t really know what you’re good at.”

Who was the other person in the room with Pat Haden and Max Nikias? I would say it was either Mark Jackson (now the A.D. at Villanova) or J.K. McKay.

Kiffin actually got fired that night during the third quarter of the game, when Haden and those mentioned stayed in the locker room after halftime to discuss what to do.

Okay —I’ll say it: Scott got the ball rolling at a post practice interview when…. after being specifically ordered umpteen times NOT to ask any questions about the status of injured players—he started off with “what’s the injury status update?” Kiffin teared up, walked off and, within 10 minutes, ordered Scott banned from practices. A hue and a cry went up….and Kiffin had to reverse the ban…..

  3. MG, Tim, SoCal, Paw-saw-duh-nah you wait.. this is all going to draw all eyes to Alkegiant Stadium just 6 weeks from this coming Sunday on CBS.

    USC vs LSU…winner take all…vanquished gets ‘trap doored’.Riley will triumph and as for the Tigers well let’s just say….good luck Kelly….and good riddance.
