The Salute to Troy kickoff barbecue dinner will be held August 23rd at Allyson Felix Field (Cromwell Field).
This is not Lincoln Riley’s favorite night of the year. USC head coaches have always hosted the event. Riley has yet to do it.
He scheduled a recruiting event two years ago at the Coliseum the same night as Salute to Troy and showed up late to the dinner. Last year, he turned over hosting duties to “colorful” director of operations, Clarke Stroud.
- There was a Trojan Coaches’ Club event in Torrance over the weekend — nine miles from Riley’s house. Naturally, he wasn’t there.
- Joshua Holland, a Class of 2026 “athlete” from St. John Bosco, committed to USC on Monday. At least he isn’t from Georgia or Florida.
- The USA-Japan women’s basketball game at the Olympics drew a crowd of 13,040 — the lowest attendance of any women’s basketball game in Paris.
Believe it or not, there were 27,021 at the China-Spain game; 24,023 at Nigeria-Australia; 20,211 at France-Canada and Germany-Belgium along with 15,324 at Serbia-Puerto Rico.
Guess not having Caitlin Clark really made Team USA a lot less interesting to Europeans who anticipated her appearance at the Olympics.
It’s all good mg
Very very bad boys to the very end !!!!

“Hosting large public events is a tough job really one for a comedian which Wiley is not, and another problem is he doesn’t much like most people

There are big crowds at the Olympics watching women’s basketball with teams from all over the world competing.
Nice that society finally gave women a real chance to play basketball at high levels, and it seems they enjoy the game more than the men do

Scooter,
Isn’t there a clause in Riley’s contract that says that he will promote SC in a normal way? As a head coach, you are to promote the program in a reasonable way and manner. This man has not. He should be docked pay for breaching, if that is the case.
gabbby aka waste of time aka Maroon, I am not talkking to you so get back to being the pineta that you are and play with all of the West L.A. boys that you seem to like

LR’s anti-social leanings have profound repercussions both inside and outside the USC football program.
He needs to overcome his loner tendencies and realize that the social side of such a high visibility HC role, now in the Big10 and given USC’s position in the 2nd largest media market in the country, simply cannot be ignored.
My surmise is that he is just not up to it… either in his recognizing the problem nor him doing anything about it. And that is saying a lot…

You know which famous comedian was basically a loner and was incapable of party-style ‘small talk?– Johnny Carson.
But when that camera’s red light came on Johnny lit up. Same for Wiley. It takes energy to ‘get up’ for public events but you can do it, it just might be momentarily unpleasant

To PT’s inquiry about whether a contractual term such as a ‘Promote SC’ clause might be included in his SC contract, such an agreement would probably be implied rather than outright stated

gabbby aka waste of time aka Maroon,
Don’t worry about my spelling. I am lot better than you at spelling. I told you not to talk to me, you are like a little kid brother that won’t shut up or stop trying to get the attention. Your penetta recess is over. Get back to the West L.A. Boys, they are missing you.

Back ‘atcha MG. Demonstrating your penchant for troglodytism as always…
If an HC isn’t engaging players, recruits, donors, students, and others who support the program… it only serves to weaken perceptions – particularly for recruits and transfers to consider the program.
Reasonable people may disagree, but now try winning games without player talent on your side. It’s a challenge. And not fun to be a part of.
So the goal for LR is winning games?

PR work doesn’t win games, idiot. The only perception that matters is the final score on the scoreboard, quit overthinking it, this is simple stuff.

trojanation,
In order for SC to be dominate again, Everyone has to recruit, including Riley. Pete Carroll was able to get Shaun Cody because he went to talk to him. That got the ball rolling again for SC to become dominate. Riley needs to get out there and talk to the players. He has to change their minds. too many kids are leaving So Cal and going to the southeast. Riley has to keep those kids here. He needs to recruit hard

Sorry trojanation, I saw your post after posting mine but I bet Wiley is sweating these days when looking over his football roster and thinking ‘Forget Ohio St and Michigan, do I have enough to even beat YUCLA ‘

@Sparrow Calypso …exactly.
Win and they shall come? Hmm… Need to win first.
And with what talent that we are not pulling over to our side do we plan to do that with? And what HC groundwork is being laid now to draw the requisite level of recruit talent over to USC? Pete Carroll was an expert in this area, and LR is obviously not PC. So… the mike is open… but all I hear are crickets and noise…
My sincere hope here is that the balance of the coaching staff can fill the ample HC ‘gray space’ that LR is not filling…

I agree! MG was fun and a great guy for many years, but then he changed. He started getting aggressive and attacking anyone who didn’t share his political ideology. The comments about the Oakland and Maui fire gave him away. He(scott) told the blog he was posting from a local Walmart parking lot the morning after the Maui fire started, when it was widely reported that all phone and internet service was down on the island. His other sock puppet, so cal, was getting abused daily. I can’t imagine a real person coming back day after day to get slapped around and act like he was winning the battle.

In discussing SC’s poor recruitment Wiley grudgingly indicated SC was behind other schools, so if you are not paying the going rate the kids are not coming as evidenced by the Trojans’ dismal recruiting “haul”
