USC Morning Buzz: Now He Has A Sense Of Urgency

Lincoln Riley says “there is a sense of urgency” at USC this season.

But it was a year ago I constantly used the same phrase and wrote USC needed a sense of urgency because it was the last season with Caleb Williams and in the Pac-12 Conference.

Instead, Riley screwed around and kept Alex Grinch and coached arrogantly.

Now there is a sense of urgency with LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame and Penn State on the schedule. Wonderful!

  • I’m told USC coaches hope defensive back Greedy Vance emerges in training camp because of his football moxie. It’s a trait lacking the past two years in the secondary.
  • Offensive lineman Gino Quinones is back after missing last season with a knee injury. He is getting some reps at center. How much playing time is available there with USC’s best lineman, Jonah Monheim, playing center.
  • It’s too bad Tim Tessalone retired because he will miss all those new media opportunities with the Big Ten Network. Oh wait . . .

  1. What a whale of an Olympics

Kamel-a: According to the latest polls people think you are better with the economy than I am

Stump: Yeah, money– I expand pockets while you reduce them

  2. Football pactice in August is akin to spring practice in baseball. Everybody is starting out 0-0, everybody is optimistic about the upcoming season, and all want to forget about last year

  3. Kamel-a: Have you ever thought about what goes into the ‘budget’

    Stump: Well, yes I have

Kamel-a: That was rhetorical, what do you pin our primary differences on?

Stump: How much time you got?
