Lane Kiffin faces Clay Helton on Saturday. Before you read these comments from Kiffin on how he hired Helton at USC, I want to preface it with a small fact.
Kiffin mentions the Tennessee-Memphis game as the example of where he saw Helton’s talent as an offensive coach. Tennessee led that game at halftime, 42-7.
Something to remember before reading this:

Wolf is just a s h i t talking troll. He gets desperate due to lack of content so he falls back on his stale greatest hits. This program is long past kiffin and Helton, why bring it up? People come to his blog to get a few laughs at the crap wolf posts

I thought Gabby said a few days back that he was going to the USC marching band pep rally today at the Palms at 2:00 and wanted to “meet up” with Scott. Instead, he spent the day trolling the blog. Once again a threat followed by a no show. That’s our Cowardly Gabby. All talk, no walk.

Is merit/past success still a factor when hiring?

“A wonderful human being…a great person,” says The Kiff, and I am sure Clay Helton can come across that way to some people, he had a ‘folksy’ charm that didn’t wear well in Los Angeles,, although a few more wins might have helped his image

Yeah well the world is full of ‘…nice guys…’
Most memorable video was Urban Meyer looking askance, at Helton just before the 2017 Cotton Bowl.
Helon ‘Golllleeee!’

In 2016 Sam Darnold proved you don’t necessarily need a coach

Yeah but one does need a:
creditable GM, coaching staff and linemen something clearly lacking for Darnold with the NYJ and CAR.

But that is for the real pros, the NFL. College footballers are merely semi-professional because they’re getting paid but at a much lower rate than the NFL, and football is not a fulltime occupation in college

There was some talk about how paying college players i.e NIL etc would be college football’s downfall, but now with a 12-Team Playoff there is more excitement than ever

NIL is the end of college football. We now have professional teams playing for colleges. No amateur teams. And after a few years, only the richest schools who prioritize football will be able to compete. UCLA will have to drop out. You already see the beginning stages of it.

The DIE hire AD Dan H Guerrero ran off the alumni season ticket holders back in 2016 and now the new DIE hire Jarmond has finished off the program with the DIE hire Deshaun Foster and leaving the Pac 12.

Well, the tv people are betting bigtime that college football is here to stay

Correct. But the number of college teams competing will drop off dramatically. TV will still make money on the top 25 to 30 schools that are rich enough to compete. Interesting that the reason Stanford and Cal were not invited into the BIG is the TV companies didn’t want them. Couldn’t draw big enough audiences. And Oregon was not offered as much as USC because Oregon is a small market and the school doesn’t draw well nationally. Wonder what will happen to Oregon when Knight dies and they lose their biggest NIL donor. Won’t be able to compete.

Yes but the Knight heirs may want to spend their billions on something other than 18 year old football recruits. Maybe medical research and/or world hunger.

Oregon Democrat Nike heirs want us taxpayers to pay for that, not them.
