Can you believe USC has not played at Michigan Stadium since 1958?
Eight of the previous 10 matchups between the teams was in the Rose Bowl.
- One thing I’ve heard in the coaching grapevine is that UCLA offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has an NFL playbook that is way more plays than an average college playbook.
- Saturday’s USC-Michigan game is a stripe out. Even sections wear blue while odd sections wear maize.
- And now for some history:
- When USC lost to Michigan, 20-19, in 1958 about 500 Trojan students welcomed the team when it arrived at Los Angeles International Airport. Imagine that happening today?

- When USC played Michigan in the 1970 Rose Bowl, the Trojans were ranked No. 4 and the Wolverines No. 7. Just days before the game, Michigan coach Bo Schembechler suffered a heart attack.
USC won the game, 10-7, to become John McKay’s second team to go undefeated in 10 years with a 9-0-1 record.
USC’s hope for a national championship was dashed when No. 1-ranked Texas scored with 68 seconds left to squeak past No. 9 Notre Dame, 21-17, in the Cotton Bowl.
- Here is Jimmy Jones running upfield in the game.

- John McKay and assistant coach Craig Fertig on the USC sideline.

- One of the game’s stars was wide receiver Bob Chandler, who scored the game’s only TD when he caught a 13-yard pass at the 20-yard line and slipped out of a defender’s grasp and then faked another to go the final 20 yards to score.

- After USC beat Michigan in the 1990 Rose Bow, the bookstore sold T-shirts that said, “Bo Didn’t Know Diddley.” It was a reference to Michigan coach Bo Schembechler and probably not in the best taste since it was Schembechler’s last game as Michigan coach.
- This is the front page of the Los Angeles Examiner when USC hosted Michigan in 1957. A loss was viewed as a moral victory. That is because Michigan was ranked 10th in the nation and USC was coming off a 20-0 loss to Oregon State in Don Clark’s first game as USC coach.

And here is the Examiner explaining a play from the game with a picture.

Well, back in the 1930s to 1950s Los Angeles didn’t have professional teams so SC was the big shot in town and fans would show up at train stations and airports to greet the team

A good thing about SC merging with the ‘Big-10’ is that Trojans don’t have to wait decades anymore to play teams like Ohio St, Michigan and Penn St

USC can overcome the Michigan crowd —but it’ll be difficult to overcome the crowd and bad officiating….

It’s the untimely ‘holding penalties for 15 yards’ that gets me. There’s some kind of ‘holding’ on every play, it’s too much of a subjective call, and refs subconsciously ‘lean’ toward the friendly home crowd with close calls

The Narcissist’s Airtight Victim Narrative
From Psychology Today
March 2023:
KEY POINTS
1. Exaggerated victimhood is a common feature of narcissistic grandiosity.
2. Narcissistic personalities often feel victimized because of their unrealistic expectations, hypersensitivity, and lack of empathy.
3. Narcissists also play the victim to elicit sympathy and avoid responsibility for their abusive behavior.
See Gabby’s claim of victimhood below.
Lack of empathy, abusive behavior, it all fits.
And of course she has now taken over the blog so that he is the center of attention, the most obvious narcissist personality trait

Eric Bieniemy makes the same mistake as Paul Hackett and Charlie Weiss. You can’t install a professional offense at the college level and expect college player to run it effectively. UCLA’s program is a mess. Will not win a game in the BIG this year.

But it was Bush that most believe was the Trojans’ ‘Mr. Excitement’. The first time he touched an SC ball he ran right, saw nothing there, so then sprinted around the left side for a big gainer. I thought to myself, ‘this guy is the real deal’

However the greatest kickoff return guy was Anthony Davis, AD, who electrifyingly ran 2 ND kickoffs back for touchdowns in one game

It’s still a memory, on one of those AD run-backs for tds he had one guy to beat, he showed him a leg which the tackler went for, and then pulled it away

Scooter,
I am amazed that you forgot to mention this. You had mentioned that Schmebecler had a heart attack back in 1970. However, you forgot to mention that SC had ties to the coaching staff for Michigan. The future Sc head football coach, took for for Schembelcker that Rose Bowl game.
Come on Scooter, you are better than that. I will give you a Mulligan
