Are USC Baseball And Rod Dedeaux Getting What They Deserve?

I was out of town last week when a rendering of the new Dedeaux Field was released by USC.

Sometimes, renderings can be misleading. But I have to say, this rendering of the new Dedeaux Field is utterly unimpressive and hardly befitting of legendary coach Rod Dedeaux.

Don’t forget when the original Dedeaux Field opened in 1974, many considered it as good as any college baseball stadium in the nation.

This rendering looks like a cheap, generic stadium being squeezed into a piece of land left over after Lincoln Riley gets his football facilities.

And judging by the renderings, the football facility looks like it is getting a lot more bells and whistles. Hopefully, this is not the case. Frankly, the new women’s soccer stadium looks nicer at this point.

  1. Sadly USC’s administration doesn’t seem to care about USC’s rich athletic tradition and caters to the hired help over alumni and students. Carol Folt doesn’t know who Rod Dedeaux was, gives the baseball program short shrift and cares about pleasing Lincoln Riley.

  2. Least we have a stadium – seen the breaking news? From 2 Urban Girls –

“LOS ANGELES – UCLA’s Jackie Robinson Stadium on the VA’s West Los Angeles campus was locked down Thursday after a federal judge ordered the facility closed until the university submits a proposal for the stadium grounds to be used primarily for the benefit of the military veterans for whom the land was originally deeded.”

I thought Gabby said a few days back that he was going to the USC marching band pep rally today at the Palms at 2:00 and wanted to “meet up” with Scott. Instead, he spent the day trolling the blog. Once again a threat followed by a no show. That’s our Cowardly Gabby. All talk, no walk.

  3. Sadly, USC baseball is now an afterthought. Regarding the women’s soccer stadium, Carol’s “Moonshot” for athletics, as it is called, is big on Title IX. I’m surprised baseball is even getting a facelift.

    1. Alv, the seating capacity is unchanged at 2,500.

Scottie is right, USC baseball deserves better. But to paraphrase the former village idiot, clay helton, “that’s not who USC is” anymore.

  5. “Cheap, generic” it is said of the new SC baseball stadium, but isn’t that true in the construction of most structures these days, there’s no time or enough money to do it right

  6. These upcoming home games with ‘Big-10 opponents has the feel of a Rose Bowl game when maybe 30,000 visitors would storm the stadium, and of course there is pageantry for Wisconsin, Penn St and Nebraska as the game marks the dawning of a new football era

  7. So like with Michigan, SC is going to get Wisconsin’s best as will be true of Penn St and Nebraska. These are ‘big-time’ games for these schools and their kids must be sky-high
