Lincoln Riley Makes Dubious Recruiting Claim

Lincoln Riley said today that recruiting in California will always be a top priority for him and his coaching staff.

That will probably come as news at Mater Dei and some other high schools.

It’s obvious Riley prefers Georgia (and perhaps Texas) and that’s fine but don’t pretend like California is your top priority.

I’ve heard from Colorado coaches that Deion Sanders doesn’t like to recruit California because he thinks players are soft. Of course, Sanders is from Florida, which helps explain his bias. Riley is from Texas, so maybe he has some weird reasons to not recruit Southern California as hard as one might expect at USC.

This issue is like everything else. Riley can get away with it . . . if he wins.

  1. I wonder what the limit is for retaining him as head coach? Next year two years hence? The incompetency he has shown in closing games with a lead is stunning. As Papadakis said yesterday morning on 2 Pros and a Cup of Joe “The season for me ended with the loss @ MN.” This is a mess and this week they travel to metro DC against MD with Rutgers @ the Coliseum on the 26t.

I’m wondering how much patience is there for this inability for Riley to do what he is paid to do – win games.

    1. Agree Rusoviet. It is remarkable how bad Riley is at clock management given he has been a head coach for several years.

Get a kick out of Deion calling California kids soft. He may have been the best coverage guy of all time but he rarely tried to tackle a running back. Deion was soft.

  2. Scooter,

Folt the Dolt and Jen, “Taco Lita”, Cohen will not pull the trigger to fire Riley. They don’t give a rat’s a@s about SC football. All they care about is looking good and pretending to run a university and an athletic department. They don’t care nor do they know the history of SC football or its magnatude if they were to be 6-0. The money would be flowing in. Yet, Abbot and Costello (Folt and Cohen) do not understand or care for SC or its sports teams, except for women’s sports. That is great, but they are not the money winners of SC.

      1. Gabby,

Watching SC football is like watching a love one die a long and painful death. You just want to shoot them to put them out of their misery and it will takes years for them to die. It makes your stomach turn.
