Sunday Fallout: The Genius Can’t Finish A Half Or Game

Did Lincoln Riley distinguish himself as a master coach at the end of the first half and game on Saturday?

He called timeout with 1 second left in the first half and then had Miller Moss take a knee. I saw an apologist theorize Riley thought about kicking a field goal but changed his mind. A 62-yard FG? USC can’t even make a 41-yard FG.

This is the kind of stuff that makes players shake their heads and demonstrates why Riley is not a leader of men.

  • Then we had the fourth-and-1 situation at the Maryland 24 with 2 minutes left in the game. Riley went for the ill-fated field goal.

Should he have gone for it? Can you imagine kicking if Caleb Williams was the QB?

It didn’t help watching Maryland coach Mike Locksley go for it on SIX different fourth-down plays. He wasn’t going to leave anything on the field.

  • Lincoln Riley had some nerve after the game when he had reserve safety Bryson Shaw attend the press conference.

How much does Shaw play? He had one tackle against Maryland. But Riley makes him face the media? Credit to Shaw for doing it. He seems like a great guy.

But why not have a starter talk? Was he worried what they might say?

This is another lousy trait of the program. Riley makes two players available to the media at road games. Every coach from John Robinson to Clay Helton used to let the entire team speak after games. But Riley is too insecure to trust his players.

  • Do people actually listen to pundits? How many things is this guy wrong about in 18 seconds?

  3. I suspect he is close to losing the locker room. If that happens, he will have pulled off that ignominious feat sooner than the village idiot. 15 years of failure, and it is now worse than ever due to the buyout. Pull the trigger and go with Budda’s suggestion of Entz as interim HC.

    1. Dave Aranda might be available at the end of the year. He isn’t head coach material but he’s a top DC, HIRE HIM if he becomes available !

      I’d make Entz the head coach now and into next year, what is there to lose at this point aside from 75 million ?

  4. USC has a head coach that isn’t qualified to be a head coach

    USC has a DC that isn’t as good as most people thought, a football savvy head coach would have looked at Lynn’s resume and said ” Nice, you beat no one, have a nice day. “

    USC has an OL coach who can’t recruit or coach, not a good combo.

    USC has TWO wide receiver coaches and NO special teams coach.

    USC has an administration that could care less about football.

    Future looks bright doesn’t it ?

      1. Entz obviously isn’t in Fargo this year, but many of his players and staff still are. If anyone saw the FCS #2 NDSU versus FCS #1 South Dakota State game last night, that is what physical football looks like.

      2. Imagine what our program would look like with an identity- with a culture, with a coach that acts like a head coach. Harbaugh won a National Championship with a fairly unimaginative offense- but had a great defense and O line through great recruiting. LR’s lack of focus on recruiting ( even though he say’s they prioritize CA- ya right!) will haunt us for years. No 5 star D line, LB, or O line guys are ever going to come here unless they are dumber than a plank of wood. Players of that caliber know they are not going to be coached up. Nothing will change here unless change is made at the top- who knows what this administration will do with this dilemma- but one thing is for sure- something has to be done.

    1. Florida is the 3rd most populated state in the USA and they’ll have their votes counted and the results on election night. Any Secretary of State in any state like Georgia and Michigan who gets on TV today and says it’ll take days to count the votes is a cheater, a traitor, and should be arrested.

  15. The 1st half kneel down was at USC’s 43-yard line not Maryland’s. Therefore, a FG would have been about 74 yards. Either Wolf’s “Apologist” is an idiot or doesn’t exist. I’m guessing the latter.
