Lincoln Riley Plugging The Leaks

It’s kind of amazing that someone with Lincoln Riley’s history (mainly at Oklahoma) seems befuddled at addressing USC’s problems.

“Anything we see that’s not functioning at a high level or heading that way, we’re aggressively addressing it, and we’ll do anything to continue to plug these leaks,” Riley said Monday night.

So the ship is sinking and Riley and Co. are plugging the leaks?

What about the clock management leak? What about the lack of identity leak? What about the lack of consistently applying pressure to quarterback leaks?

  • It was kind of funny some people speculated yesterday that Riley closed practices because he made a QB change.

How would you tell if a change was made based on being allowed to watch 15 minutes of stretching?

  3. Back in 1975, there were Bumper Stickers (remember those old timers) that read “Save USC Football. Shoot Vince Evans”). Maybe a 2024 version could be to set up a Go Fund Me account to buy out United Airlines’ field naming rights and change the name to Ford Theatre’s Field at the LA Memorial Coliseum.

    1. There were? I never saw them. SC was 7-0 had beaten Notre Dame in South Bend 24-17 and was ranked # 4 when John McKay announced he was retiring and the team went into a 4 game nose dive. I remember being mad at McKay (not Vince) for not waiting until after the Rose Bowl to bail for the expansion NFL Tampa Bay Bucs .

  7. As Wiley will point out, the team is only 4 plays away from being undefeated, and if that were so then everybody would be singing a different Wiley tune

    1. The problem with the “four plays away/we were close” argument is that the teams USC played were not that impressive. All of them are flawed. The only team with an offense was Penn State and Penn State does not have a top tier offense. The three other teams are a joke offensively and yet we lost. And we were not able to dominate the line of scrimmage against Minnesota and Maryland, c’mon. If we played Oregon or Ohio State we would lose by 40 points. I think we will lose at least three more games this season and lose many of our recruits.

  8. The problem with USC football is that the administration let the program decay for many years since the Bush scandal. They kept it at a distance. Out of sight and out of trouble. Only until recently have they tried to be serious about bringing the program back to life, but it is going to take a good coach to accomplish that task. We should be glad that the scandal was limited only to the football program and not any other part of the University programs or services. Imagine if all of the sudden a USC doctor starts molesting students??? Oh no, the University for sure would shut down the entire school of medicine and never train doctors again.

  13. DON: I know you are not that into sports but the emotions of college football fans are something to behold, especially at Alabama with 3 recent losses and fans of the Crimson Tide are instead seeing a ‘Blood Red Tide’

    1. In an effort to get votes, Kamala goes to an extremely poor, run down Indian reservation. Surrounded by news crews, she meets the Chief, and she says, “I’m here to help.   14. As with Ton-o-Hel so is true with Wiley, because of high buy-outs SC got stuck for years with them. But I still would take Wiles over the ex-SC guy

  15. USC should start lining up Florida State for a bowl game because it doesn’t look like they are going to a bowl. FS is 1-6 and started off ranked in the top 10.
