USC Morning Buzz: Does $10 Million Dollar Man Know Trojan Family Exists?

A few weeks ago, a University of Washington donor told me he randomly bumped into Jedd Fisch at a campus event and had a brief but cordial conversation with the football coach.

That simply doesn’t happen at USC. Lincoln Riley is sequestered inside a building that is closed to the public. The only time he leaves is when he goes to football practice or his car, which is parked right outside the building and has a personal driver.

So as USC struggles, there is little reason for boosters or anyone on campus to support him right now. They have no relationship with the highest-paid employee on campus.

Every dept. at USC right now is dealing with budget cuts and some have hiring freezes. And these people see a guy who never makes an effort to be part of the Trojan Family getting his gazillion-dollar football complex.

So now that Riley has a 3-4 record, where is the fan/community base to support him? It doesn’t exist.

  • Here’s the thing about USC being 3-4. The last time was 2021, when things imploded as Clay Helton and then Donte Williams were head coach. The time before that was 2001, when Pete Carroll was in his first year trying to rebuild following Paul Hackett.

Both cases had extenuating circumstances. What’s the excuse for it happening in Year 3 under Lincoln Riley?

  • Rutgers is already in Los Angeles and will practice here today as it tries to acclimate to an 11 p.m. ET kickoff at the Coliseum.

    1. When it comes to liars, no one can come close to Cowardly Gabby, who promised to “meet up” with Scott Wolf in Las Vegas before the LSU game but then mysteriously disappeared and spent the day spamming this site instead! You can’t make up such comedy!

      I thought Gabby said a few days back that he was going to the USC marching band pep rally today at the Palms at 2:00 and wanted to “meet up” with Scott. Instead, he spent the day trolling the blog. Once again a threat followed by a no show. That’s our Cowardly Gabby. All talk, no walk.

It is a fairly common (and can be severe) mental illness: about 0.32% of the population suffers from it. [Let’s see. There were 331 million Americans in the 2020 Census. I don’t believe they diagnose it (for sure) until one’s late teenage years, so let’s apply it to those Americans and Traitors like Cowardly Gabby 18 and over. Google says that 258 million Americans are 18 years old & older: 258 million x 0.0032 = 825,600 people adults who suffer from paranoid schizophrenia, just like Cowardly Gabby!

    2. “$50 million on DEI recruitment and retention.” Absolutely shameful. The Supreme Court made it clear that reverse discrimination violates the equal protection clause of the Constitution but Folt and USC marches on with their illegal policies. These policies are extremely unpopular and dangerous. Why would any sane person donate to the university under these circumstances.

  5. Pete Thamel cited a $90 million buyout for Riley…not happening….as a result of this year’s implosion, the article went on citing little interest by any NFL team for Riley as a head coach i.e. glaring inability to ‘close games’ with a 4th qtr lead.

    it appears it will be another 2 years through 2026. I also sense Riley is staring at his own self-created legacy if this mess continues as such, unlike many, I think it is going to get better.

    What a mess tomorrow evening on the Harbor/Pasadena and Santa Monica Freeways.

    5 pm 1st game of WS at Dodger Stadium

    7 pm PHX @ LAL Cryoto

    8 pm Rutgers @ USC Coliseum

    Fox televising both WS and Rutgers @ USC back-to-back….get ready for a ‘dump’ to FS1 or old KCOP for the start of thd USC game.

  7. I can see CLR taking the Chip Kelly route and going to another school/NFL and being an O-Coordinator. That way all he has to do is hole up in his office, scheme up a game plan for an opponent, go to practice and games. No media, no boosters, no NIL, no transfer portal to deal with.

    1. Trojnfn4: I can see a scenario where Kingsbury of Washington gets promoted to a head coaching position and Riley takes his place. Or Caleb Williams, Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, or some other quarterback persuasively convinces his team to hire Riley as an o coordinator. But the problem is that an o coordinator job is maybe 3 million and Riley earns 10. Perhaps some negotiating by each side but USC is still going to be on the hook for a big number.

      1. Maybe, but I’m sure he’s bankrolled a lot of money so it shouldn’t be that big of an issue. The bigger question could be if his wife and family still like it out here. I just really think that he and Chip Kelly are cut from the same mold as far as not wanting to deal with some of the BS a head coach has to deal with, especially if things goes south the rest of the season.

      1. Agree 67. I posted about the prospects on recruiting if Hensen does not shore up the offensive line and was censored. Maybe I should post about Barstow. That seems to go through.

    So you have three options for tomorrow night that you can watch. They are the scum sucking dodgers, seniot citizen Labron james, or “Deer in the Headlights” Riley and SC football. Which will it be?

    I will watch the Yankees play the scum sucking dodgers until it is kickoff time. Then i will watch “Deer looking into the headlights” Riley have a 4th quarter lead and lose to Rutgers. I have boycotted the nba due to wokeness and political crap.
