USC Morning Buzz: This Was Supposed To Be Week With Joy

Lincoln Riley’s done a great job of robbing the joy from USC fans this season.

Is anyone talking about the Nebraska game? The last time USC played the Cornhuskers at the Coliseum in 2007, there was a crush outside and inside from all the fans and GameDay was there.

Now we have Homecoming with Throwback jerseys and a new QB but little juice because Riley laid an egg this season. It’s compounded by decommits in recruiting.

And, yet, there is still a getting smaller group of fans that believes Riley even after he makes false promises, botches recruiting and doesn’t have his team ready to play for four quarters.

  • By the way, this obituary was a poor way for USC to handle the death of John Robinson.

I want to post this video of the last 5 minutes of the 1982 USC-UCLA game. USC lost, 21-20, but the important part is watching Robinson at his peak, calm and cool on the sideline during a stressful final drive.

It’s a great watch. Who remembers that USC tight end Mark Boyer caught a TD pass as time expired for his first catch of the season?

The tackling looks better than today. The receivers aren’t motioning for a first down after catches. But most importantly, hit the play button and watch Robinson on the sideline.

  1. J Rob wore cardinal and gold, and you can see how much he cares. Riley wears a black, long-sleeved t-shirt to games, it is hard to tell he cares about much of anything.

  2. Jim McDonnell was just sworn in as LAPD’s new Chief. He said, “I know immigrants are being disparaged right now”.

    That’s wonderful! LA now has a police chief who doesn’t know the difference between LEGAL AND ILLEGAL! This should work out well.

    2. Not sure it was the obituary itself, but that he wishes they had done more. If you visit the USCTrojans.com site, you’ll often see a pop-up advertising the next big matchup in the bigger draws, (football, basketball, volleyball) in an effort to pump tickets sales. I just visited it. A pop-up with his obituary would have been nice.

      I’m sure it will be mentioned at the Homecoming game this Saturday. Probably a short video on the big screen, that I hope will be put on the aforementioned site afterwards.
